I thank all the veterans. Service was never easy, and often incredibly difficult. Salute.

I must e getting old. My wife got me to go to a Vet appreciation dinner at a local church. Meal was good, the speaker was a PO 3 hole snipe. He had an excellent, animated, fabricated sea story. There was a common thread of truth, too much embellishment. I was a PO1 hole snipe and his stuff stank.
Getting old? After he was done, I got up and left. A few years ago I would have had to confront him. It's his story...
Thanks for reading. A hole snipe works in the engine or boiler room aboard a ship. PO is petty officer, as in small and insignificant. 1 is first class (there is an oxymoron there somewhere) petty officer, E 6. PO 3 is third class petty officer, E 4.
I have spent the last 40 years trying to determine if it was better to be a first class small and insignificant, or a third class small and insignificant. First paid better...
