Ali, if you ever get a chance to hit the shores of Lake Falcon in S Texas these agates are all over the place to collect with no bag limit. Picture # 6 . Buying a plane ticket to Texas is becoming more and more tempting. Dam you've got some pretty rocks down there. Texas is a gold mine for color and variety no doubt Ali. It takes 20 hours to drive there from Georgia, so I try to stay there and collect for an extended period. They are all in the form of cobbles. Flying would sure nuff be a luxury.

Wow! Please share with your very distant countrymen! Just gorgeous material! Again, wow!
And that video made me feel like a caveman watching a brain surgeon.

The geology around Amistad is Limestone as opposed to the Aluvial deposits around Falcon. Walked around the shore at Amistad a bit and never saw any of the right kind of rocks. There may be some in the actual river bed below the Dam or maybe above the lake.
I am beginning to believe that the agates and the Aluvial deposits around Falcon were washed out of old mountain ranges in northern Mexico. Or they were deposited by another ancestor river of the Rio Grande. On the geologic reference I am reading there is a "Falcon River" running south of the present Rio Grande that cut across northern Mexico about between 50 and 40 million years ago. It ended at the then Gulf Shoreline around the Zapata area. Anyway still reading and attempting to make sense of what all went on in the Big Bend/South Texas area.

I believe all the alluvial deposit simply washed over the hard limestone and landed in Zapata Henry. Add Eagle Pass, Laredo, and downstream from Zapata. And deposits captured further up stream.

And I did have permission to remote private property. So it is complicated. I went once for 12 days and this trip was 19 days. Best to hang there, cover a lot of territory. The best way would be an organized trip with a bunch of people and secure permission to collect private property in advance. Or have a boat there and collect on the public lake shores.

I cheated and looked at them on Flickr already. Nice stuff, look forward to seeing it all polished up in 4 days. I saw these on Flickr, yesterday too..... Unbelievable the variety of colors and patterns, in those Rio's! I have to figure out a way to get a trip together. I'd even ditch my Marfa stuff to make room for the haul! Can't wait to see the finished material!

Well, I got some privatized due to the photo shoppers(and my Mother) of the world out there. Especially since a certain somebody arrived on the scene.

I have watched your coral reduction video a couple times and tried to emulate. Never much success in my un-practiced hand however .... got a bunch of local stuff I can destroy with little heartbreak if I mess it up ... think I give it another go after seeing this. Rock on James!

Rock on James! Tons of coral laying around to practice on tk. Enough that I try to chip off weird shapes. Ya can either chip it to size or grind/cut to size, take your pick. The chipping sure is faster.

Not normally a stingy man but have an issue with my Rio's. I should send people Rio's but I don't. You could judge me for that short coming. I suppose covet comes to mind because they are fine and because of the effort. The effort was a pleasure, their beauty leads to coveting. What to do ?
