I would say it is worth checking out with someone reputable... You never know unless you check. I would hope the best for you, but you are probably like me... those great deals always happen to someone else.

Reminds me of items we saw in various museums in Greece. Size? I'm not sure the exact size i will measure it to be exact. The chess board in the back round has squares nearly 2 inches big. I will let you know.

I have a good feeling about this i have a good track record of finding treasures. I have been a hardcore picker for along time now. I use to think them deals only happened to others. I have become pretty knowledgeable on finding them gems.

That is an incredible find. I don't think I could keep it...it would creep me out. Hoping it's the real deal for you. Did the guy have any background on where it came from?

Looks genuine, not that that can be depended upon these days. Commoners who could afford a mask usually had one made of cartonage (good quality wood being scarce in Egypt). Probably before the Ptolemaic period, and perhaps the family of some official. If there is a nearby university with an archaeology department, they might authenticate it for you. It looks in poor shape, with the hieroglyphs below the face unreadable and some flaking. Perhaps a professor might know of a graduate student who might stabilize and restore it as part of their coursework.

Wow, that's incredible. Is that an artifact that could get confiscated for any reason? I don't know the laws and how ownership of such ancient relics works. It would be very cool to get a possible history of the piece!

Very uber cool!!! Great find. I do want to say that during the Egyptian revival period around the turn of the century, lots of things were created to emulate the things that archeologists were finding. It is possible that it is old- like 100-150 years old and in poor shape. Looks real to me, though. But I don't know squat.

I did read something about the egyptian government demanding that any artifacts smuggled out before the 1970's be returned to the country. Hope it isn't so.
