from Virginia. Sorry about your glassware. But, your repurposing is a good idea. Should be pretty cool. BTW- Your cheery smile brightened my cold day..... BRRRRR Thanks x two! I was just devastated when I dropped that box. Tripped carrying it into the garage...very similar to my Mom a few years ago. She was carrying a set of dishes in a box. She saved all but one plate - but broke her hip! All that ran through my head in the split second I had to make a decision! Bev 1, dishes 0 😉

Thanks Pat! I am in mid-Michigan. The more I read, the more I realize I don't know! And I already knew I didn't know anything so now I'm just over-whelmed and freaking out. Ahhhh....!!! 😄😅 Hey, another Michigander! We’ve got some decent rocks in this state to tumble if you ever decide to move beyond glass. I am aware! I have boxes and boxes of rocks I have collected through the years. I have some in the window sills, on the kitchen counter, a bowl in the bathroom and living room. They're in my car and purse! I put them on my deck and stack them up in my flower beds! 💕

bevsmith1960! I was originally a Michigander, but now I live in Tennessee. Look forward to seeing some pictures of your sun catchers and windchimes. My parents are from TN and they moved here before I was born. Still have a bunch of cousins there ☺

Welcome, from the icebox called Vermont where all the rocks are covered with lots of snow! Too bad about the dishes! Argh! Personally, I am a terrible klutz, so I have to always remind myself to take extra care... or else!
Some old glass is slightly radioactive, not enough to be a problem in everyday use... anybody know if it could be an issue with tumbling? Any precautions she should take?

OK, did a little preliminary research... don't drink the slurry. The uranium content of Vaseline glass ranges from 1/10 of 1 % up to 7% uranium... but not all glass than contains uranium is the classic "Vaseline" color. Some is amber. Also, the amount it glows under black light do not necessarily relate to the amount of radioactive material it contains. Old glass can also contain lead, thorium, and arsenic. With the little knowledge I have, personally I would still tumble it, but while in process only open the tumbler outside, (tumbled glass cam give off gasses) and handle the slurry with gloves on. Should be OK to show off after it is done. More research is probably in order.

I have a ton of research to do before I begin. ~~I have a double 3 lb tumbler and a bunch of broken glass. That is all, except I also have NO knowledge~~ 😉

Where is the correct place to ask a question about tumbling glass or how about GRINDING the glass?

Ask in the “Rock Tumbling” board.
