Looks like a nice shine on those to me. Are you doing the obsidian in a rotary or finishing them in a vibe?

Obsidian sure is a finicky tumble but yours looks really good. I always seem to get a few that take a turn for the worse right at the end. No biggie to just toss those ones back in the stage one bucket for a week. The color changing glass is cool stuff. The second photo from the bottom is my favorite. Might be silver sheen obsidian?

Chuck Agreed! I used to always have pieces that went into final polish looking fine and would come out with a chip or scratch. I stopped worrying about it and just tossed those back into the rough barrel. I also want to add that I checked the rocks both wet and dry out of thew rough stage. Letting them dry seemed to show things I missed when they were wet. Nice shiny batch!

Those look real good. I just finished my first batch and it was a challenge, same with imperfections at the end. I had a hard time getting the shine and ended up purchasing Cerium Polish, worked very well.

Chuck We have two light switches in our bathroom, one for the light on the fan and another set of lights above the mirror. One has incandescent bulbs, the other has a compact florescent. It's fun the put a piece of glass on the counter and flip the lights back and forth. I wish I had a lot more because I can't help giving them away. Everyone loves them.

The slightest defect in obsidian or glass is highly reflective in bright light and the camera sure does make a show of it. Human eyes don't see it near as well as a camera collects the reflection and shows it so it really doesn't matter.
The occasional little reflective dot pits are often bubbles in obsidian/glass. The scratches are usually SiC 220 particles trapped in a bubble. Or a cracked ceramic media.
One reason I switched to less aggressive AO 220 in first vibe step. No more SiC 220 in the vibe for me. The SiC 220 step increases the risk of polluting your batch. It's simply too aggressive and sharp. It is a step backwards IMO in attaining a polish anyway. It also allows skipping AO 500 and AO 1000 in my machine anyway.

Fantastic work there, I'm envious of tumblers such as yourself who can get Obsidian to shine like that.

Nice work, Rob. I've not finished all the color change glass, but it's a fun tumble and people do seem to like it. I'd take another bunch of it too.
