Have been slack on the forum lately....My computer is getting old or is ready to be blown up,but I have the hardest time getting into any forums lately...So its a hit and miss, when I can...LOL Haven't been doing much as for rocks lately either, about the only thing that works is F/B and that is mostly drama anymore...A few good posts on there once in awhile...LOL I don't use my cell phone for any forums,I can't seen the screen enough to read anything...LOL Hopefully I get this figured out....Hoping for a new tower or replace the hard drive..

Get ccleaner and malwarebytes and let them clean your computer up. can be amazing. assume you are doing the updates. everytime i start thinking I need a new one, I run the cleaners and it really helps. cleaning up the startup menu helps also. good luck

Ccleaner is really great. Been using it a long time. The only time I need a new computer is when the hardware is just too old to run the new programs. I just gave away our XP PC. Works perfect, but won't really run the new stuff. You can set most browsers to empty out the junk when you close it, too.

I noticed you've been missing. Good to know it's not health related. A lot of older towers electronics won't support the new software. Cheaper to just get a new tower. I've seen then as cheap as $300 lately. Windows 10, etc. I tried to have them upgrade my old XP and they said can't. Architecture too old. OK reload XP for me. They refused. So I had to buy a used Win7 tower instead. 3 used towers later, shoulda bought new. Won't go back to that store anymore.

NORTON SUCKS! Its letting in spyware, virus rides on cookies,etc,etc... I can't get on "Firefox" anymore, its full of everything.. I'm using Internet Explorer of all things now (HATE IT).. We do a clean out several times a week on this old guy,but it just seems to be like sweeping the floor during a dirt storm...UGG...LOL We are going back to our old web protection service soon....If it ain't broke, don't fix it..Lesson learned!!

LMAO XP was the best in my opnion... my current Dell desktop was Windows & and I upgrade to 10, I use windows defender for virus protection and run ccleaner when I think of it and run malwarebytes full time and have not had a problem in several years. I get pop ups say malwarebytes has blocked websites. v I run google chrome for a browser and have had good luck with it. I am too old to figure out problems, I never remember how I fixed it last time and have to start all over. Good news is the VA came thru with a 60% disability. Life is good, most days.

I'd take any older xp or just about anything still running well but!!! I'd convert to Linux I have been using it for years now and haven't looked back. Most software is free and you can find just about anything that an average user needs or wants these days.Linux,Ubuntu and other distros don't take large amounts of memory or extremely fast processors to run well, no need for anti-virus programs.I could go on and on I refuse to use Microsoft or Apple products.I'll quite ranting now

Mike, One thing I have found is when running internet Explorer is a serious and sudden slowing down or "overloading" of the system [running windows 10 operating system, yuk]. I also have the "Edge" search engine, and seldom encounter the slowdowns when looking at the same subject. I often have to switch search engines to finish a subject. Microsoft pushes real hard to get me to go to Edge as my primary searcher, methinks their information gathering works better that way. I do run two bug catchers regularly. Getting to hate the whole thing, but stuck with it; I agree, XP forever.

Hmmmm, have been following the subject for years now, and scratching my head...... You folks invest a lot in your equipment, plus cleaners, etc.... Yet problems seem to turn up rather regularly. I find a lot of people are far beyond annoyed, and rightfully so. While hacking is a problem over here too, and is a worldwide nuisance, I have never had any problems with store-bought products, normal updates as provided by programs that I run, and a simple free version of AVG. Do I have bugs in my system, certainly, but nothing too worrying that I would have noticed, and thus far every time I think something is going on, a simple cleanup (usually once a month) means everything is back to normal. But in case something happens, 95% of everything is backed up on an external hard-drive (kept offline) at any time. Maybe I'm just lucky thus far, but......

I have all Apple products and very few problems. They’re not perfect, but I don’t have to run virus protection or run cleaner programs. Plus, Apple works hard to protect your privacy. Google wants to know everything they can find out about you. In Apple’s latest operating system, they’ve made it difficult for advertisers to track you.
If I was retired, I could get by with just an iPad. I’m typing on my iPad right now. If this was my only computer, I would have a physical keyboard for it, but I don’t because for occasional typing it’s not that bad. I can use my Mac if I need to do a lot of typing.

I will soon be putting everything I want to keep on an external hard drive and completely formatting everything, reloading win7 on my laptop. It works every time, and I only run windows defender for protection. I have found that the anti virus/malware programs are usually what slows everything down. Plus, if you use Firefox be very cautious with add ons, I have had to completely remove and reinstall FF a few times due to add ons that don't work well with other add ons.

FF came out with an entirely new platform for the browser. It's supposed to be much better. I'm waiting for my add ons to catch up to it- if they ever do. minerken I feel ya. I'd love to dump windows. My brother uses ubunto and has nothing but problems with it, so I have been hesitant to make the jump. Plus, some of my programs that I rely heavily on will not run under linux. Yes, the freeware is good. Gimp especially- gives adobe a run for the money. I don't much care for google, either. I use the email, but I don't use the search engine. I use start page. My freeware programs, which are old tried and true work fine for protection. I've been with avg forever. They had a few bumps, but all in all, I prefer them. I have never had a virus- not once. Of course, I don't do porn or hacking sites. I would love to go back to windows 2K. It was the best version IMHO. It was still very tweakable. I had mine shaved down so small and fast!

We have two external hard drives....One is Tammy's, one is mine... As for now, I just stay off the desk top as much as possible...Go hang out in the shop or something... Should go visit some friends too, haven't seen them for four or five months and we live in the same town...LOL Hey Woodman, congrads on the VA disability......Sometimes its hard to work with them, but it pays off in the long run... Got mine 12 years ago... I have to get some stuff on paper, so Tammy can erase the hard drive and start this D/T over again.. One of these days...LOL The last few days I have been dealing with TMJ and my first go around with Vertigo (which goes with TMJ)..Not liking that, at all... Usually just bum around the yard and no climbing stairs or driving...Comes and goes... Could be worse, my shithouse could float to sea........Hahahahahahahaha...
