Had a blast on our trip to Quartzsite this year - left on a Tuesday and arrived home on Monday - but it felt a lot shorter than that. It always does.
Headed out with a couple of spoiled rotten doggies in tow.
First night - dry camping in the S.Cadys
Low carb BBQ - salmon, veggie, and avocado Love this diet!
First night at Quartzsite - camping off Dome Rock rd.
Arizona morning sunrise!
My sweetie sporting a TLO hat that my son (works at Lidz in the mall) surprised us with.
Dome Rock rd. area hiking
Someone has a sense of humor...
Rockhounding for jasper in the Brenda area with the RTH group!
melhill1659 , @shotgunner , zarguy , jeannie
Saturday night a large and freezing cold shower moved through prompting us to make an early exit - we had visions of last year pouring rain and 40+ winds = miserable!
On the road up towards Parker - the weather made for a gorgeous sunset.
Back to the S.Cadys/Ludlow area for more boondocking
Early morning (coooold...) rockhounding in Scott's favorite spot - only took a small handful of rocks, nothing worth photographing.
Oops... this was our only mishap - accidently closed the glass lid on the range while the burner was on very low
Sunday - Fulfilling a promise I made to Eva that we would hike in to the Strawberry Onyx site - partly because the area is a Wilderness and no motor vehicles are allowed but more so for the fun and exercise. It's an easy 4 mile round trip basically flat hike. The trick is to be VERY selective about what rocks you pick up - they all have to be packed out. Lots of tire tracks leading in but it's not worth the $500 ticket if you get caught - and again, it's about the fun and exercise for us.
The view looking towards the mine - seems like a LONG way away . No vehicles allowed past this point.
Old mining shack
Strawberry Onyx site
Not a large haul - not too bad to carry split between two backpacks.
This beautiful chunk is on it's way to @shotgunner to cut up for jeannie
Lots of float to pick through but there is also some seriously beautiful host rock just waiting to be set free!
Packing it out...
Stopped to play in the snow and make snow angels on the way out.
The dogs were like WTH is this stuff???
Got our cabinet tightened up and headed home. Spent our last night on the road stopped near Mojave - just pulled off into the desert, drank a few beers and called it a night.
Finally done and on our way home, the dogs were officially exhausted! Except for pee stops they barely moved the whole way.
Thanks for looking and participating!
