Whenever I find crushed granite here in North Alabama, black rocks can also be found. The material apparently runs in veins through the granite. The granite does not tumble very well but this glassy black rock does very well. I guess it is Black Granite? I've been collecting it everywhere I go and finally had enough to run through to the polish stage. Here is what it looks like before tumbling Here is some at the top of the colander during a cleanout in Stage 1 Here is the whole batch fresh out of the 6 pound tumbler. Not the greatest of shine on these, one of the rocks lost a large chip out of it and is probably why these ended up with just a high sheen A closeup of the best looking ones

I posted something that looked similar a while ago. It was ID'd as black chert. The tumbles look very nice.

This Black Chert has been sitting around here for 3 years and was recently rediscovered when sorting out my Horde of Rocks
Still rather hazy and I knew that I could make it shine better. So they went another week in polish and came out much better than before.
I had some black Countertop Material in there as filler, but it did not take a polish even though it was all in the same barrel together.
That countertop has a bunch of Chrystal structure and would look awesome if I could get a clear polish on them. Here it is wet . . .
