Just thought some pic's from our last trip there in October might be interesting to some that don't make it to the Mojave Dessert. The site is outside of Barstow, CA and commercial mining operations there ceased several years ago. We've been there a few times. But like all old siies, the really good and easy material to gather has been picked over quite dramatically. But, if you're in decent physical shape, don't mind hiking up steep grades, have tools and lot's of water, the trip can be enjoyable.....and even a bit rewarding......If you like common granite Opal (some precious mixed in), Dolomite, Basalt Gneiss, Biotite Schist and Quartzite. The dirt roads to the location are mixed, some well maintained, some not so much. Advise a high ground clearance vehicle, 4-wheel drive not required unless one cares to switch back the valleys and ravines....: These photo's only represent locations at the base of the climb.........the dirt roads and meandering rock scape to the location bored the heck out of me.......lol I'll post photo's of some of the catch in the Photo section here.
