I just ordered some of these and similar yesterday to attach to glass and other cabs/tumbles. Super sale yesterday for $1.54 each. Now they are back up to about $6.00. Pewter/Zinc. I really did not care for the pattern on the lower part, but nothing plain available. Ordered various metals and sizes.
Plan on roughing cab surface a little prior to gluing on. Have been using Aileen's Rock/Metal glue and it works great. Especially when I use 60% off coupons to purchase. Learned the hard way to completely clean the applicator each time. Have to remove it for cleaning.
Will wait until they arrive to determine the best placement. May need to file some of the metal off and then smooth/polish it prior to attaching. All depends on exactly how large the upper surface of the cabs are and the overall shape. Envision the tab to compliment the shape of the cab, so maybe V shaped, rounded, tear drop, etc. Might be able to file off pattern if it does not go with cab.
It is all about experimenting and being creative with materials and tools at hand, right?

There was a Turkish fellow selling handmade Zinc jewelry. Kinda took my breath away as it was w/fine patina and stout.
Then picked it up and freaked out again at how light weight it is.
Gee I am fighting glue especially after watching Billy's settings, talk about 2 ends of the spectrum.
But I did think about a full cover back bezel of any soft base metal nipped quick to close-to-cab-size that is then hammered and anviled to exact size to cover back of cab sillhoute.
Hammer finished facing away from cab, flat anvil side glued to cab. You could pencil trace the cab on the flat section of anvil and hammer bezel to spread it to internal size of cab shape marks.
Then glue on.(with a bail integral to bezel.)
