Alright, I'm going to start with the trip photos and post some pics of the material later, after I get a chance to spend a little time on the tile saw.
I didn't get a picture of the Nethers farm house when I pulled up, I guess I was just anxious to get in there and meet everyone. This image pulled from the internet. It's definitely off the beaten path. The porch on the side is open now and there is a scale sitting out there. You just weigh your haul, divide by two (50 cents a pound) and add in the $7.50 dig fee. Put your money in a provided envelope and slide it under the door.
Across the street is the dig site. It's nice to have shade while working. The dirt road heads back a little way, with numerous pits, old and new, dotting the woods.
Mounds of dirt and flint to look through. Literally walking all over flint.
It's just a matter of picking the right colors, patterns and size. With so much to look through, there is definitely a lot of high grading to be done on the spot. For a tumbler like me, there wasn't a need to get in a pit and do heavy work. There was plenty to be picked off the surface. Just the right size.
Too big.
inbtb checking to see if the color runs through it. I think that pit was all grey, Les.
fishnpinball putting in work.
fantastic5 high grading her rocks.
Her husband Paul, providing the rocks. He's a beast in that pit, didn't want to slow him down for a pic.
fishnpinball and jeannie taking a break to talk.
NRG doing his best Tarzan pose. Actually, just watching all the work going on. He was there for the company, not so much the flint.
Been talking to this guy for a couple years now, it was good to finally meet up.
And the money shot. The whole gang.

I couldn't catch up to cardiobill to get an action picture. Les is right, he's fast! I saw him near me at one point and then he's gone in a flash. He covered ground fast, got what he wanted and was out. Good to meet him though, and everyone else that was able to make it out. Too bad there aren't many locations here in the East to make meet-ups like this more attractive. I hope, one day, to make it out to one of the 'west side' digs.
Pics of material coming soon.
Randy

Thanks for all the pictures! It's nice to be able to put some faces to names and I must say ya'll are a bunch of handsome folks - especially Garage Rocker We feel bad for not making it - in hindsight maybe we tried to plan too much with cross country travel and instead should have focused on a weekend (flight) trip and at least gotten to enjoy meeting everyone and picking up some nice rocks in the process. Haha! You funny!
Wish you guys could have made it. I'll have to head that way sometime, I doubt I'll need to go back for flint for a little while.

I know another summer has come (and gone...) without visiting my uncle Mike and my cousins in your area but we do think about it all the time. Be fun to hook up with you and spend some time tromping through Kentucky creeks (or back yards haha). Love the pictures you just posted - keep 'em coming.

Some pictures of Anita's crystal pocket. Pocket was broken open and they just tossed it aside, not flint so they did not want it. Different people different interest, wife pretty happy she found it. 1 2 3 4

Thanks everyone for the pics and great company. Great group of people who clearly know a lot about rocks It was great to hear the others share knowledge, unfortunately I had nothing to add to any rock discussion I did surface collecting and focused on rocks that could go right into the tumbler without the need to be broken up or cut My haul was a pittance compared to the others - 10# but I still have a bunch of chunks from other visits there that I have never broken up Weather was perfect as far as an Ohio day goes Great time, great bunch of people Bill

Incredible that was tossed aside especially due to the size. I see that happen when people just aren't sure what they are looking for when it comes out of the ground. Most times I give them a punch lol nudge and point it out what they just tossed away. Looks like you all had a great dig!

I better get these pics up before the work week starts or it may be a while. I spent the afternoon trimming up tumble material from my "tumble-size material" bucket. After sorting everything, I ended up with one half bucket of little pieces that required, at most, one or two cuts or some clean up, another bucket of high grade cutting material and one bucket of average cutters.
18 lbs. of tumbling material ready to go. I may empty my big barrel and start a dedicated flint batch.
Sorry, no slabs here, but a good representation of the different looks I was able to collect.
The kids are always impressed with crystals, so I had to grab a few.
I have high expectations for this batch. Anxious to see pics of the material everyone else picked up, too.

Randy, you bagged some nice stuff! I hope what we lugged home is half as nice! Les is right. I was there for friends and scenery. Total win on those fronts. The area of the farm is like going back 80 years in time. Old established family farmsteads like dating back to 1900'ish. Nothing commercial. Just older secondary forest, I'm guessing 50+ years on the secondary forest. Tons of rocks and a check mark on the bucket list. I'm so happy to have made it. I'm even happier fishnpinball stepped up and brought this to a close. Nice work sir! Regrets: I regret not getting a pic of Mrs Kay Nethers home. It has had new siding and a nice porch added. The old scale still on the floor. I also regret not snapping a pic of her beautiful handwritten (in perfect cursive) letter to all whom visit. She is clearly an elegant, well spoken woman. My last regret is I did not get to meet her. Looks like we maybe back for Thanksgiving. We shall see. I want to meet her. She isn't going to live forever. What are ya waiting for? Go get some Flint!

Scott, I also regret not taking the pics you mentioned. I got too excited when I first got there and I was spent by the time I left. I'm sure there will be another opportunity sometime.
