Just got back from a week in Deming New Mexico. Have sorted out a few of my finds for pictures and hope to have them posted in a day or two. We alternated between Big Diggings and Round Mt. Both were productive.

Ok a few agate pictures from my Deming trip; Big Diggings White-Skin agate, sound a decent number that had Moss interiors. Most of these are 1 to 3 inches. I seemed to have gotten decent at taking off a corner or a nib with my rock hammer, the trick is to hit the rock, not the thumb! Haven't decided to cut or tumble. It's about 3 inches by 3 inches. DSC_0226 by Findrocks, on Flickr View of the other side; DSC_0227 by Findrocks, on Flickr Some Round Mt potential Fire Agate. A couple of these had a definite area of fire. Now to figure out how to work with this. Found one slope where I found most of those pictured. Have a more not pictured that may be nice. I found my best pieces in the graded roads. For Round Mt there is a 25 pound limit per day which can be filled in about 5 minutes so high-grading is in order. It's a very large area and really good for exploring. I have some more nice pieces of the bytroidal that are soaking in Iron Out and will post pictures later. Henry

Exciting stuff!
Really like the "Fairburn". I'd be tempted to slice it, trying to bring out those bands.

Unfortunately I had to miss it this year as we kind of ran out of time. I had been the previous two Junes. Did visit his old shop still run by his ex-partner Chris a very interesting character in his own right. Managed to dig through and down into 3 of "discard" piles and found a few nice cut halves. According to Chris they have opened a new pit at Baker Ranch. It's very limited with maybe two sessions a year, nothing open to the public.
I did spend 3 days at Round Mt and was very happy with what I found. It's a large area and I have only covered a small portion. Need to have a nimble fellow rock picker with me as I don't like to venture on my own too far from the other two folks who stay pretty close to the vehicle.
Assuming I am in Deming next June I will take in the museum and the collection which has to be the finest collection of Thundereggs in the world. The term visual overload comes to mind after abut an hour there.
