Thanks We went Rockhounding Yesterday morn to Early Afternoon and went back to the Campsite. We decided to leave early so we loaded up and left about 4:00pm and We got home about 3:00 am. This was a great trip and consider the rock hunting a complete success. We accomplished and found everything we were looking for. I would like to thank everyone that gave us Tips and information to make our trip a successful one.

Thanks for the interesting trip report and pics. of your finds. Hard for me to believe that is a lake, looks more like the ocean, lakes here not so big. What is that big structure close to the boat marina in the second from last bunch of pictures?

The structure looks like an old ore dock to me. They were once very common around the Great Lakes. Many have been torn down or fallen down now.

They are still mining and delivering Coal as a freighter came in and hauled a load out of there while we were rock hunting. The ship used to pull up to that Dock and they lowered the chutes and filled up the ship. Sorry for the Late answer but been busy unloading / Sorting and organizing Shop.

What is that big structure close to the boat marina in the second from last bunch of pictures? Lake Superior is 180 miles by 360 miles long. If a drop of water enters it today it's almost 200 years before it leaves www.seagrant.umn.edu/superior/facts

This question is for anybody but kinda for our Petoskey Guy Jugglerguy . Hey Rob I Categorized Our Rocks from Our Trip and put them in Tubs so when we got Home MaryJane could sort them and put them away and keep them seperated. I was tumbling some stuff from Marquette and In my cleanout of that tumble inside was two PETOSKEY STONES I couldnt believe it and then aked MJ if she was sure she kept them separated? She said 100% sure. Is it possible Corals were in superior?

I find fossils in Lake Superior, but not Petoskey Stones. However, a few years ago, Karen at the agate shop in Grand Marais said that people had started coming in with petoskey stones that they found up there. She was sure that someone had brought them to the lake and thrown them around the beaches. I think she's lived there her whole life, so she would know if they had been there all along. I don't think they would be found in Marquette. They're not even found on Drummond Island, according to Chuck, which surprises me. I'm not doubting your wife, but I think they just got mixed up somehow and she didn't know about it.

Hmmm I hand picked the pieces out of the Plastic Sealed Container and put them in the Tumbler. Maybe someone was playing up in Marquette too? Who would have thought I would have found a 1000 lb + plus Burried Petoskey my first trip out, but it happened. Thanks Rob
