Hello all
I just got word that the Walker Ranch has been sold to the same folks who bought and closed the Woodward Ranch to rockhounds. With the sale and closing of the Woodward upon Trey's passing, the Singleton last year and now the Walker, the key ranches that were the source of the most unique, and in my opinion, finest plume agate in the world are now gone to us for the foreseeable future. As a hobby, we owe a huge debt to Teri Smith for her efforts to keep them accessible as long as she did. They will certainly be missed. Teri still has access to other ranches, with the South Larremore the most likely to produce plume as float that originated on the Woodward and Walker. All is not lost, but the quality and quantity of fresh world class material will certainly be far less, as will the collecting opportunities for generations to come.

Craig That is most unfortunate but not un-expected as it seems to be the trend with private land here in Texas. The only good news is that the agate will still be there and will continue to weather out. If the status were to change in the future, the collecting would be really good. Faint hope but you never know. There are other ranches south of Marfa where the Bouquet and the Black Plume occur asI have collected at them years ago. Maybe one of those could become available. Teri Smith has a letter in September’s Rock & Gem throwin’ some shade on John Carver’s not-quite-so-unique Big Bend aggie field. (August R&G, p19) Don’t suppose she’ll be conducting too many tours on the “Carver.” : ) texasamethystagate.com

The original article was poorly written and really did not show anything new. It was suspect in my mind. Teri's just echoing what others have said.

Thank you for posting this. I have never had the chance to hound there and I probably never will. I haven't even had much of any of that material and prices are already on the rise. Sad.
