Have always enjoyed the helpful and informative posts on RTH whenever I've found them through online searches. Finally getting around to joining, even though I'm not online a lot.
Started cutting in 2007, and collected opal and faceted goods for 20+ years before that. When I started cutting opal I joined the local gem and mineral club and started discovering all the other cool rocks in the world.
Have met a few of the RTH members over the years, and couldn't hope to ever meet nicer people. Hope I can contribute once in a while.
PS - The thread is "Hummingbirdstones 2" because my wife Robin is Hummingbirdstones here on RTH. I'm the scruffy one who's always in the saw shop trying to fine tune my x-ray vision. It's unreliable as hell, but it's always cool to see what really does come off the saws... .

Thanks, everyone!
Spent most of July getting ready for the show our club hosts each August. Had a new layout for our booth. A couple of the members here on RTH did visit Robin and me at the show.
Was in the saw shop some this weekend - trying to get ready for next year a little earlier. Really wasn't kidding about spending a lot of time with the saws. You all know how much fun it is when you hit the right orientation for nice slabs and cabs.

Hi Pat.
Thanks for asking. My "scrabble-board" user name is the Aztec word for hummingbird stone. That's what they called their opal. Found that in the "World of Opals" book years ago - and it seemed to take years to learn to say it...!
Ed, we'll both try to remember to post info in advance next year. Record turnout this year, but always room for more. Added more vendors in the arena concourse this year. Don't have many photos, but here's a link to shots of our setup.

Photos show about 1/4 of the main floor, which is a full-size hockey arena plus the "stage" area used for concerts.

I just responded to another post about "windowing" rocks to determine what's inside. I neglected to mention that some slabbers use their X-Ray vision. Mine's not working right now. I need a firmware upgrade. Lynn

Thanks for the link Vince!
Many seasons I’ve miss it
I keep telling myself it’s the perfect escape from the Phoenix heat to start the rock season. But that requires good transportation. Something I’ve lacked for quite awhile. Prescott remains close to my heart.
Sound like you folks are rolling pretty good
Hope so!
Ed
