Heading out to South Dakota for a few days with a friend rockhounding the first week of October. We will be spending some time searching for Fairburns on Indian Creek and the banks of the Cheyenne River. Wondering if a side trip into the Black Hills would be worth our time. Anything other then agates worth our time?

There are several areas to find various minerals. And if you feel like hard work teepee canyon agate.

Some Pet Wood can also be found. Typical Dakota's browns/tans mostly. Fairburns are elusive, but beautiful.

Sorry, I haven't hunted much in SD except just over the border of NE.
I have been to Fairburn 3 or 4 times but I mostly stay in NE.

The buffalo gap national grasslands center in Wall can be helpful. Free maps and they have one marked up showing collecting areas. Main rocks being agate, prairie agate, jasper, petrified wood and rose quartz
