Box has arrived at its next stop. We're in fog today, so will have to await some clearing before I can take photos and move it on to its next destination!

Had sunshine today! The box should be on its way to Mike in tomorrow's mail. Here is what was contained within when it arrived, defying all the laws of physics... After having fun looking through all the nice items, I took out a few slabs (including some nice plasma, which I haven't had for a while), a weird little carnelian ball, and a bag of mixed stones that I'll be looking through later... Here are what I put back in to fill the empty spaces I made... (some slabs and preforms)(aquamarine, axinite, citrine, citrine, spinel, star enstatite, black "onyx" cabs)(a piece of Oregon wood, some tumbling pieces) And in honor of our millionth post, $100 million (sorry, I'm out of $1-million notes)... (who could resist money that features pictures of rocks?) Hope it wends its way onward without causing any injuries to the postal carriers!

Wow, there's some great stuff heading to Nebraska! I'm a little daunted by what I have to put in, since I am new to all of this and basically only have what I've collected. Seems like a label saying "Agates, Wood, Sioux County, Ne" doesn't compare to what's in there. I just don't know enough, yet...

Swapping in some local material or other extras is great. For those sitting on the sidelines: even those in nearly rock-free areas should feel free to participate in the Traveling Rock Box: jewelers usually have a few leftovers from projects, even beginning collectors quickly start accumulating duplicate pieces, slabbers I know always have 1 or 2 slabs left taking up space in an otherwise empty bin, etc. It is like a little rock shop that comes to you in a box. Amazing what a nice selection it contains. I did ID a couple of the unknowns that I didn't end up taking - was like a puzzle deciding what I had that would fit back into the space freed up by any choice I might make. As a rockhound, there was just a lot of fun in looking through it, too.

Do you know what rocks we have here in Ohio? Flint. And that's down in CENTRAL Ohio. It's awesome stuff, but that is ALL we have. Rock-poor and yet I'm the one organizing this

You do have some nice specimens in Ohio, though, if you like fossils.

You do have some nice specimens in Ohio, though, if you like fossils. Indeed. Mostly plain limestones and marble where I lived (back before the family hitched up the Conestoga and headed west), great for building but not real interesting otherwise. We did sometimes get gravel from the south with good-size fossils, and sparklier decorative gravel from up north around Toledo that contained pyritized critters - probably the start of my interest in rocks. Knew about the flint, but never saw the very colorful, gem-grade stuff that has been shown here.

@rocks2dust Nice additions.
Agree that it is the diversity of material contained that makes this type of box so appealing. What one person thinks is a common find where they live could be considered a treasure they will never find to another.

But I have a dilemma- a good friend ( manofglass ) is helping me to build a cabber. It may take a while, but I'll get there. Therefore, I really would like some of the slabs in the box to use in the future. Hopefully everyone is ok with that.
