I picked three of the smaller slabs, when I get finished I'll post pictures. I'm resisting the Arroyo Jasper because I feel someone else would definitely do it justice better than me and it's so nice. Also resisting the jade/nephrite for the same reason, I really like it also. I'm super glad that I participated in this. It's one thing to see all of the stuff that it has in pictures here on RTH but another thing entirely to see it in person. Not having been hooked on rocks for as long as most people, getting to see, hold and inspect it is a real treat. Mike, if you like it, take it. That's what the traveling box is about. Who's to say that someone else is more deserving? YOU are. When I first got here, it was more plainly stated, I think, that the box was a great way for people who never had a chance to work some of these materials to get a chance to work with it. Don't be shy. I know most boxes end up with more than they start with because don't want to take too much and then put more back in- because RTH rocks! But, seriously, as long as you are replacing rock, then by all means try something new to you. Thanks, Tela. I wasn't really saying more deserving. I'm taking plenty to tumble and a couple of slabs. I plan on participating in the traveling rock box for as long as it continues so I'm sure that once I learn to cab- and I will- I'll be a little more willing to take new things to work with.

My thoughts exactly and this is the first time I'm participating in the TRB.

Ok, I'm about finished. I'll try to have the box out by Friday, Tommy! Here's what I removed: And here's what I'm putting in, more or less. More if there are any cracks to fill, less if I can't jam it all in. A nice piece of wood I found last Sunday, some prairie agates and some bubblegum agates.

Update... I was going back and forth and decided to take a citrine, I'd like to make something out of it. Also one of the $50,000,000 bills. I added a few more rocks, pictured below. Tommy I'll try to get it out this afternoon or tomorrow. Pretty much every nook and cranny is filled.

Just an update - it's been a busy bunch of days since I got the box but I did manage to open it and take a quick look. It's packed tight like a jigsaw puzzle already but I do think I'll be adding more than taking if I can get it to fit. My goal is to get the box back on the road headed in arghvark's direction by this Friday.

I'm sure lots of folks are excitedly waiting, but no worries on my end (even though I too am excited to see what's in it!) At the least if it arrives during the week it will wait til the weekend before I can really do anything with it.

OK, sincerely sorry for the slowness with the box but life has been crazy since the middle of January. If I had known it would be like this I would have moved down the list or bowed out. The box is re-packed and on it's way to arghvark today. I removed just a couple of pieces - the dark piece of Indian Blanket, the thick hunk of wood, and the small slab that was marked "San Francisco brecciated jasper." I'll need to read back through and figure that one out but it grabbed my attention for obvious reasons. What I put back into the box was two more flats of what I hope are high quality agate preforms to all the flats of very nice material already there. This box has a lot of bags of tumble rough but it is also turning into a cabbers delight. There is a LOT of serious cabochons to be had from it so have fun all.

Very pretty! However did you make them fit into the box Hahaha it was NOT easy. Some of the standing flats of slabs were placed inside the shell of a small flat rate box - I had to remove several of those, consolidate a few flats and shore things up and so now the flats are all standing independently if that makes sense.

I gotcha, I think! Life seems to be settling down here, I've just caught up on the past week or two of posts. I'm so glad that everyone is enjoying this so far!
Also, I'll be in California for a week (April 27th-May 5th). Fresno-San Diego and a ton inbetween. I'd love to rub shoulders with any other RTH members while there if possible! I'll post this somewhere more relevant later, but this'll serve as a reminder for now. 😁

Box arrived yesterday. (I think it was probably delayed by the snow in the Sierra Nevada, lots of pass closures these last few days.) Opened it this morning. Whee!
In addition to selecting what I want and what is to be put in, I'm going to re-bag and re-label some stuff. Bags are already coming apart (to be expected.) I'll put labels on paper as a lot of what was written on bags is becoming obscured.
One thing for sure, I'll take the other 50mil bill, since this is the closest I'll ever be to being a millionaire.
Goal is to have it back out on Tuesday. Thursday at the very latest.
