This is one of the very first cabs I ever bought and I still love it. It was called Hickoryite, but as I have learned since, it is not like any wonderstone I have ever seen. It took a decent polish, not glassy like an agate, but good. I see a sunrise viewed through the branches with Spanish moss. Any ideas?

The veins sure do look like the veins in noreena jasper.

I agree, it doesn't seem to have the layering or graininess that I'd expect in hickoryite/wonderstone, though the color range is similar. The colors and streamer patterns remind me of some Owyhee Sunset jasper I've seen (wide variety of patterns in that). Looks like that would be a very flattering color combo when worn against just about any skin tone.

I agree with @rocks2dust. Looks like the Owyhee Sunset Jasper to me, too. Really pretty stone!

Thank you everyone! You firmed up what I was thinking. Certainly not Wonderstone.

Not to sound like a broken record but that strongly resembles jasper (rhyolite) I have collected (and sent you pieces of) from the Dead Camel Mountains. The Rhyolite material found there can mimic Noreena AND have many varieties of pink/yellow transitions with color-filled healed fractures. Google images results on Owyhee Sunset. Except for the one sphere picture I don't see any resemblance to the color-filled healed fractures shown in yours. Not gonna stay and belabor the point though ... if the group thinks it's Owyhee then go with that

Tommy, I bought that in the late 90's. Was yours available then? I don't remember it, but maybe it was.

No worries, at all. I literally was just asking. I get grumpy on days when I know I have to get dirty to my shoulders in rock saw mud trying to fix something on my saw that wont stay fixed The location where all of the Dead Camel Mountains claims are happening right now, including where I collect what I call Dragon Jasper, were discovered as early as 1968 and were mined as Lahontanite. We know this from following a '68 map up to the ridge where the original Lahontanite claim still had posts standing. In my humble opinion the pictures of Owyhee Sunset on Google are not close to what your cab looks like. That being said, I know and respect that folks on here are drawing from actual knowledge and memory where Google is not.

Tommy=100 points. You win. Nah... no points. I went off half-cocked as they say. If Tela got this cab circa 1990 then it is almost certainly Owyhee like the others said. I keep telling myself I need to actually READ the post before I start responding

OK, first off, Happy New Year to all. Second, that is a gorgeous cab. Now to put in my $0.02 worth, muddy the waters, and hopefully learn something in the process.... What I've heard about Hickoryite, it looks like wonderstone with the oval patterns, but is fine-grained. I believe this might be a pice: IMG_2396_Brecciated wonderstone? Hickoryite? by Stephan Telm, on Flickr Now as for rockjunquie's cab, I have a piece that is very similar. It came from an "Oregon sampler" box, and was marked as Willow Creek: Willow Creek picture jasper freeform by Stephan Telm, on Flickr (This is just a polished slablet, and a "relatively-soon" candidate for re-shaping) So, I am also guessing Oregon over Dead Camel (because the guy I bought from knows his Oregon rocks, I think -- he might make a mistake while packing a box, but probably would not get the state wrong). My question is, how close (physical proximity) would the Owyhee sunset and Willow Creek be? Is there any overlap? Could the cab be Willow Creek, or is that always orby? OK. Three questions, technically.
