Thank You........They are a far cry from what I've seen exhibited here at RTH.......... Since I have so many small flats/slabs I've cut from the rough I preform for tumbling, I thought I'd give a shot at hand polishing those I know won't survive tumble cycles even in the vibe.
To add, was also trying to find a way to use the many tumbled rejects (not show quality) accumulated....now I can use those as exhibit platforms for the little "cabs".
It's a nice change (exercise) from just tumbling....and something new for me to dabble with while waiting on tumbles....giving life to those which I would normally just throw in a jar.....!

Looks good and your reasoning is great! Having something else to do while the rocks tumble is a good idea. AND, you'll only get betterer and betterer. Cool rock, BTW.

Now if I can only find out what the stone material is........the dark stuff is soft like a mohs 4. The white material is harder like a mohs +6 and takes to a shine like an opal.....that's why I did not try to tumble it.

Nice work. I have seen similar: quartz veins &/or stylolites in black marble or slate from the uk but I’m not aware this material is actively traded. What have you got there and where from?

My son and I collect a variety of material in Utah, USA......much of it from the central north/west/east counties.........I've ID'd the common stuff from most of the areas, but this one has us stumped......and like most of our collections, 80% of it is not popularly trade.
Thanks for the response......!

Hmmmm... first is a butterfly. Second is a hamburger with two beef? patties. Attractive rocks! Would be fun to create the 3D items.

On the top rock of the hamburger bun, there is the profile of a white man looking toward 7:00.
