Think I finally got cloudinary working! Joined my local rock club in October and have been enjoying learning to cab. Up till now I have been hand working my stones so always stayed with the soft stuff like petoskey, had no idea I would love the wheels so much! These are my second and third cabs done with some wild horse jasper.

Congrats on getting on the wheels! That is some really beautiful material and you got a great polish on them.
Those appear to be pretty large cabs and the girdles look pretty thick. It looks like you could take the girdles down a bit and dome the cabs a bit more. They look a little flat on the tops. Other than that, you are well on your way to turning out top notch cabs!
Great job on only your 2nd and 3rd ones, especially the round one. It's very difficult to cut a round and you did a beautiful job on it.

Nice job! Great shine one them I get flat on the tops as well and it's to me the hardest thing to correct

Wow! Great job. A lot of my early cabs have the flat tops too. Doing was hard to learn. Then I over-corrected, and took the girdles down to nothing.
The shapes are perfect. I still would have trouble getting on that round.
Also, you seem to have removed all the scratches. No easy task with stuff as hard as Oregon jaspers.

A natural. Appear to be a quick study for a difficult task. I like flat tops and rounded ones, depending on what they will be used for. Still waiting to purchase a cab machine, so for now using the Dremel and other hand tools + the tumbler for final polish on some.

You're off to a great start! It looks like you have all the wheels you need for getting a good shine. Big cabs are harder to do than the smaller ones.

Those are really nice cabs! I'm happy you got Cloudinary working too it's complicated to set up but once it's running it really works great.

Great work. Two choices with cabs that size would be either thin them down or go with the flat buffs - or anywhere in between. On the finish you’ve nailed it and the shape is great too. Keep on!

Thanks metalsmith, that's exactly where I'm at with this. Halfway there and undecided on how best to finish but I have yet to do a flat so leaning toward that. I'll post another pic when it's done!

Good job!!😀 cabbing is fun. Do you dop?. Or do it by hand / no dop?

This one I have been doing by hand which I find quite a bit trickier than with a dop.

You're off to a great start Romo. Your comment about cabbing without a dop stick being trickier is a good one. A recent thread on here about using dops - or not - had many good comments from both sides in it.
There are some things that just can't be done well without a stick, but if you learn how to hold and move a stone without sticks it will pay off for you in the long run.
You will eventually run into non-standard shapes where sometimes a stick just gets in the way. Some types of rough, or a piece with an internal flaw, might require reshaping or changing the orientation of the dome as you cut. If you already know how to manipulate stones without a stick you'll be ready for anything.

When I was first learning, I used a stick. My hands got soooo tired. Friend didn't use a stick and I feared for his skin which was about a mm from the wheels. I tried it and liked it. I could control how close my fingers got to the wheel. Hands did not tire. I felt more in control. I agree with hummingbirdstones2 above. Some stones require a stick. The small stones do. Enjoy!

Romo, I like your large cabs. Bobby1 does large cabs also and is a master at it. Have you checked out his work?
