Ouch! Right to the jugular! That is the problem. 2.5 for you. 7 hours TO you for me. Trips planned every month until July. jeannie will likely spend a lot of the summer in Ohio being a new grandma. That will free me to maybe bonzai up and spend a few days hounding. Is it hot there in summer? Or at altitude? LOL sorry. Yeah it gets hot as blazes there in the summer - triple digits with regularity. For looking at monthly average temps use Sacramento or Chico and you wouldn't be too far off. There's not much in the way of shade, either. Went the in July once, and sweated buckets. The snakes were happy, though.

My trip down the 5 freeway from Red Bluff just got shortened. Now we added a stop in Berkley for dinner with family. Would have loved to stop at Cache Creek. Maybe I'll just wave at it as I drive by. My main collection will be Stoney creek and Black Butte on the 26th of December. On the 27th a stop at Anderson Lake and Area 54. At least I gotta try the place out. Would love to extend the trip but we are boarding pets back home. Thank you for all the tips and support. Hope to show off a few rocks from the trip next year (2019 right around the corner).

Back from our trip to Red Bluff. Gaumer's was great! Dropped about $50 on rough. Worth the stop even if just driving up the 5 Freeway! First "Rock" stop was Black Butte and Stoney Creek. Filled up a couple of bags on a very pleasant morning. Stayed the night in San Jose. The next morning was Anderson Lake. Not much there. And the final stop was Area 54. The wind was blowing so hard we cut the stay short. Got at least one bag. Just grab and go. The drive home on the 5 way interesting. We dodged tumbleweeds most of the way back. It was good to get home and thaw out. It was good to see family.

Hopefully you had time to poke around in the museum

Tommy, we spent almost two hours looking through Gaumer's. That slab bank was cool. Everything was displayed so well. Bought a couple of t-eggs and agate rough. It was pretty easy to hang there. I love the old scale that they weighed the rock. The best was the museum display with "The Rock That Started It". Thanks for the scoop. My sister lives almost right behind the store.
