Found this out walking a cripple of days ago. The yellow-green color and banding caught my eye. It will not scratch with a pocket knife so it is at least mohs 6. There are a lot of copper mines in the area which makes me think it may be CO.

I dunno- a lot of copper ore is pretty soft. Yours looks like it has dendrites- at least in the picture it looks like it might.

There are some hard copper ores such as silicated chrysocolla (chalcedodony stained with copper salts) and some do contain a fair am amount of quartz or other hard minerals. Although most commonly the main matrix of copper ores are dolomote and limonite.
Looking at your stone though I doubt it is copper ore. Most copper minerals will be darker green, blue or brickish red. I have not seen any copper minerals that color before.

Thanks for the info. The greenish tint made me think of copper. Lot of the darker blue or green around and is frequently quite nice looking. Most of it is very soft, though.
