I was busy yesterday, and knocked out about a dozen cabs. By the time I finished, it was getting too late to photograph, so I got some of them today. A couple still need touch-up work, and some are just being difficult photographic subjects. Here's what I got decent pictures of: From left to right: Morgan Hill poppy jasper Cache Creek poppy jasper (Woodland, CA.) Stone Canyon jasper The center two were self-collected about 15 miles from home. The patterns and colors are similar to Trinidad jasper, except for the fact that it has the coolest what I call "fractal orbs." If you look really closely at the brown and yellow areas, you'll see that they are organized into poppies, which , themselves, are composed of cluster of smaller poppies. I've only found the one like it. DSC_1157_Four faves from this weekend by Stephan Telm, on Flickr Tese two cabs came from a mini-slab of brecciated material that is just a mess. I can definitely see quartz, jasper, pyrite, native copper and traces of chrysocolla (at the edges). Possibly some cuprite as well. It was softer than I expected and M-E-S-S-Y!!! The pan turned deep black, and black swarf covered the stones as I worked, so I was working essentially blind. Even rinsing the stones in clean water only helped for a few seconds. My hands are still stained, but these are worth the effort. DSC_1120_A brecciated hodge-podge by Stephan Telm, on Flickr

Beautiful cabs. Have to agree with the left breccia one being the cat's meow. That is some really awesome material.

Thanks, all. I do like the brecciated pyrite, etc. ones too. I think my favorite, though is the second in the top pic. It's local, it's self collected, and it's got a lot going on (brecciated jasper in multiple colors, thready veins of hematite, and the micro-poppies). Plus, that one gives me a sense of accomplishment. It was completely free-hand from a heel cut (I wish I would have gotten a picture of that), navigating pits, fractures and punky areas. All that, and I really nailed the the dome and girdle. I decided that I'm keeping that one. It just really reminds me of Trinidad jasper (creams, browns, pinks and blacks), without the eight hour drive.
