Ouch. I was expecting to see a broken cab, but when I saw the first photo, I thought you might have been sarcastic. I wish that was the case. Sorry to see.

Heartbreak, yes. Can you file the broken edges and insert a thin piece of rock there --- a if it were intarsia? You have a lovely piece going there.

Oh no, that is a heartbreaker. I like Pat's idea of making it an intarsia piece that would be cool.

You have a lovely piece going there. it broke diagonally and large chunks of crystal came off front and back. not sure if it can be saved. I'll make another cab for this setting and set this one aside to think about. The next cab will be backed by jade...this broke so easily I was shocked.

Ouch.
That was a lovely cab, looking like a couple of nice ear ring stones now.

My suggestion would be to back it with basanite (cheaper than jade and strong) and maybe do as Pat suggested using a thin strip of turquoise or opal. I used a thin turquoise strip where a fracture was in a lapis cab and it turned out pretty good.

I may try that with some of my more-fragile dino bone. Thanks for the idea.
Sorry for your loss. I've felt that one before. Freeform time!

Beautiful cab & setting, I sympathize. But that's the risk with gems that have perfect cleavage like labradorite. The pre-break cab was spectacular but I'm sure you can make new designs from the remaining 2 pieces.

I've got a fair amount of it, and not all of it is great cabbing material (orange peeling, inclusions...). The darker stuff that isn't great quality would make good backing for the black and pink dino bone that likes to break on me.

Don Bummer! And it wasn't just any cab. It was a primo Labradorite. I'm sure you've got a good backup stash, but sad anyway. Lynn
