Looking for recommendations for Rock hounding vacation spots in Feb-Aprilish Daughter can do walking and a little digging but nothing major. I can do a good bit but dont have an extensive knowledge of veins, digging...etc. We've already done Oregon Coast, Mt Ida and Graves Mountain. May be asking a lot but Any and all suggestions appreciated. There's not much self collecting quality stuff near us. Any ranch type destinations with on site guides would be cool too as long as understanding and okay with folks with different abilities. Sophia goes at her own pace at times. Just want Sophia to say "we/she" found it and we made items from it for our shop. Thanks and sorry for the long read.

I can put you two on lapidary materials in SoCal. One day will fill your buckets for a year.
ETA
And if you don't visit? We will send you a box. I've been quietly watching you two and am super happy you are here.

Some places in the northwest that have someone on-hand. For thundereggs, Richardson's Ranch and the Lucky Strike mine have folks to tell you what to find and where to look. For opal, Royal Peacock (Virgin Valley, Nevada) and Spencer (Spencer, Idaho). For petrified wood, Hollywood Ranch (Linn County, Oregon). If she would be more pleased with a fossil, there is usually a volunteer available at the Wheeler High School dig (Fossil, Oregon). The Oregon Sunstone fee digs also have people on-hand (north of Plush, Oregon: Spectrum Mine and Double Eagle Mine). For Star garnets, there is usually someone from the Forest Service monitoring the screening area at Emerald Creek (Idaho). Most of these places are closed for the season and reopen around Memorial Day.

What about the field trips associated with the ____ show up in Oregon? I'm blanking on the name right now. Starts with a P I think. I think it's in the spring too.

They are a week apart. I second Madras from personal experience - the first time we went up we camped at Lake Simtustus and it was awesome. Just 15 minutes or less from downtown Madras and the show. Last time up we camped at a state park I'm drawing a blank on the name but it was equally wonderful if not even better. Approx. 25 minutes from downtown Madras. Richardson's ranch rock store is worth the trip. Literally.

Where to stay? Transportation? And more.... I'll be watching as well. Last time I did an overnighter for Lavic, I stayed at the Hampton Inn by the outlets in Barstow. Probably not a bad jump off location.

It's going to really depend on vehicles. I promise to sort it out and maybe Tommy can make a T-shirt fit RTH Mojave 2019!!

If you hit Oregon I'd consider Glass Buttes ... especially being that you like obsidian. I usually stay at Burns and drive twenty - some miles west for day trips.
Southern Utah is another good place to consider. There's a number of RTH members who can hook you up for that area.
I've stayed at Barstow for Cady Mountain trips and that's always been a winner.

I got you.

OK, so where is Sophia located?
I might have some sort of cool info if they are in the right area.
I might have done some research.

This is actually quite complicated. I got you. I interpreted Jason's post as meaning he needs to pick a "vacation destination" type of place (Disneyland comes to mind) and look for rockhounding around it. I could be wrong though. If it does turn out to not be ideal for what Sophia and Jason need then let's spin it off into a new thread and not let it die because it's a great idea and will spark a lot of interest
