It is still news as long as it is an on-going tragedy - even when it unfolds at a slower pace than the latest Kardashian marital problem.

It is still news as long as it is an on-going tragedy - even when it unfolds at a slower pace than the latest Kardashian marital problem. The problem has been around long enough that the parents of these miners knew of the issue. The miners must have made informed consent. This is not a government problem.

There was 1566 legal decision by Queen Elizabeth 1. That led to rapid escalation of coal use. 15,000 metric tones from 1560 to 200,000 tonnes were mined by 1600. The coal at that time was just used for heating and cooling, John Evelyn,(1661) writing about London air “Fumifugium” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FumifugiumWas one of the first examples of inconvenient truth. Realize this observation was made before the Industrial Age> That when the frenzy for coal extraction reached momentous mining proportions. Water wheels were the source of many of the factory production methods before the introduction of the steam engine. But water wasn’t as reliable or controllable as the mighty engine of factory fun. Now none of this is meant to imply that the mohs wants any damn government agency telling anyone what they can smoke.
