The flow lines in obsidian are absolutely mesmerizing to me. Those are beautiful! It is like staring at a campfire! One year while elk hunting we set around a campfire at night taking pictures of the flames. Good thing it was in the digital camera era!

I have cut 100's of pieces of Obsidian and sometimes the only way you will see white spots is with a camera also....It seemed to me that the shallower I found the material, the more the spots showed.... Usually the spots aren't all the way through the material either.... Cutting with the flow lines of the Obsidian.. I like cutting it at most any angle or degree, than you get some nice slabs going on...

Sometimes the white spots are cool in certain settings on a slab.....

Now this slab has it loaded with the white spots.... I usually work all my Obsidian, so I do think it disappears from the rough to finished material...

Do you find those spots more in the ones with sheen?

Yesterday I cut a piece off and started cabbing it. All was going well until it flew across the garage and broke. I should have it done today Gold sheen bands with tiny flashes of color. I should of cut more preforms out of it while I was there

All was going well until it flew across the garage and broke. Ouch! Nice fire sheen layers in that piece. Most reliable Fire Sheen came/comes from the Fire Sheen pit, which lies across the valley from the narrow Fire obsidian flow. Probably related underground in some way. Probably been 15 years or more since I last stopped at that particular site. Has anyone been to it recently? I just wonder because it seems to not be mentioned in recent guides. Perhaps it ran out or got backfilled? Trying to get the colors in fire sheen captured in a photo is the very definition of "frustration"! I see some, though
