I have a page on Facebook, Southwest Rockhounding and Mining. One of my posters posted this today. Anyone else have any information on this?:
Craig Bowlby: "I just received more bad news for rock hounds. The Canadian company that owns a number of copper mines in Arizona has placed gates across the road that leads into the Burro Creek collecting area. This means that the beautiful purple agate as well as the pastelite and Autumn Sunset dendritic agate are all a thing of the past, unless we can convince them to open it back up. They are not actively mining this area. The closures are retaliation against the environmentalists who blocked a mine that they wanted to develop. The irony of it all is that it doesn't hurt the tree huggers. It's us rock hounds, who support mining, that have been shut out. If you have any kind of political pull, your help in getting this historically significant collecting area opened back up."

Wayne vwfence lives near by, if they blocked the road I am sure he would be aware of it.

Here's some folks who are active in keeping public lands accessible. They will know who the contacts are for that area. amlands.org/If the mining company put up the gate, I doubt it's even legal.

Well, the road that I take in leads to ranches which are private property. I doubt they could just block landowners from tending their cattle.

I haven't been down lately , but a friend was about 2 weeks ago and there are no new road closures that he told me about , there is a gate that has been there for several yrs now that where the road went up to one of the purple veins and back to the tailing piles . you can also still come in from the road that starts at Nothing and get all the way down into the creek area

I totally agree. It is illegal to block access to public lands but this company is acting like they own the land. A lease is a rent, not ownership. So even if they have a claim they cannot block access.
The same thing has happened here where BLM leased some land to a gun range so they put a gate across the opening to the canyon as if they own the land and it is private.

Do you know the name of the Canadian company? No, that was all that was posted about what was going on. They did not give the company name.

Do you know the name of the Canadian company? McEwen Thanks, Ali! Went on their website and they don't even have anything going on in AZ. The only US mine they currently have is in Nevada.
I think we need to verify that there is, in fact, a new gate blocking access before we get our collective panties in a twist, especially in light of what vwfence said.

the company that owns the Bagdad mine also owns the planet Ranch now also . they bought that for the water rights from what I was told . As for where the gate is at Bagdad I don't have a plat map , but its probably right on the line of what is their property that they own because that one of the area's with tailing piles
