Rough shaping and finishing steps to me are two different processes kskid. Roughing and stage 2 are done in a rotary, finish steps in a vibe. Shaping in the rotary takes a long time(bottleneck), why not have lots of rotary capacity. At the 16 pounds rotary to 1 pound vibe ratio the rotary tumblers only have to run 4 months out of the year. For example a Lot-O with a 3.5-4 pound capacity can be teamed up with a 16 x 3.5 = 56 pound rotary or 5 - 12 pound rotaries running a 6 month warm season only. By the way using the cheap bulk SiC in a massive high speed rotary that produced a large amount of tumble shaped rocks for finishing is a great way to go. I have shipped pre-shaped rocks to beginners and seen them have finish polished rocks in a few weeks. i.e. quick success and puts a smile on them. Pre-shaped rocks sold on EBAY for tumbling enthusiasts ? Probably a great idea.
