Happy New Year everyone!
Much to my surprise (NOT), I did not have time to do very much cutting or cabbing while taking 17 credits of geology and math. Now that I'm on break from classes for a few weeks though, I've managed to get a few things finished up and have many more in the works. Here are a few of my favorites from the latest batch (dino bone, tiger's eye, leopard skin, and honduran opal - in that order)...I'm still loving the leopard skin jasper, every piece is so unique.

Happy New Year to you, too. The cabs look great and I think that leopardskin is some of the best I've seen. Love the opal, too. But, the bone is da bomb. It's always nice to be able to squeeze some cabbing in and get into the zen mode.

Great job! Your little succulent is cute too. They're so easy to take care of.

Very nice stones. Have to agree with rockjunquie about the bone.
Did you have to stabilize the opal before you cut it? You got a nice shine on that considering the material.

Well done - on both the cabs and your studies!

Thank you for the kind words everyone! Just got back from a quick trip to Quartzsite so looking forward to getting started on even more goodies in the week I have left. I'm with you all on the dino bone, I definitely ended up with more of that than anything else. I actually did not stabilize the opal hummingbirdstones . I used a lot of water and a higher than typical speed for cutting/shaping - it really went pretty quickly. It took quite a bit of pressure to get polished, letting it get nice and hot seemed to help though. This is the first opal I've done so there's always the chance it was beginner's luck. I went up through 1200 grit and then polished with cerium oxide.

Some great cabs. Creating with rocks is great to refresh the soul. Love the Opal.
