Bought these as gem blue chalcedony but after cleaning what looked like very dusty rocks. They look much better then before I cleaned them. First thought that came to mind was they were from a desert somewhere out west. Does anybody know where the location they would be from. Arazonia? Thank you

Is that the utah blue opal? From ( ) St. George area? I'm hearing some very faint echoes in my own mind too but can't place it. Mojave blue agate? Those are definitely opalized thundereggs, except the one that looks like a fossil, hm.

Actually, after some googling, looks like these, from Oregon, maybe Richardson Ranch: www.mcrocks.com/FTR-A/FTRDanKellyMay22-23,2004.html Might have to copy and paste the link - the comma in it is confusing the link editor. And, that dragon has cataracts!

Many years ago I used to dig many blue opal T-eggs in the Owyhees near Succor Creek. They were beautiful...until they dehydrated. A couple of months after being sawed they changed color and turned into white opal fragments.
I hope yours is more stable and that you can get some nice cabs from the lot.

I love rocks but first and foremost I like to know where they come from

These others were part of the deal more stones I have never seen.

You guys really do have it made out there tons of really cool stuff to pick. Not to mention beautiful country the 3 sisters mountains breath taking.

Even happier knowing where they came from and what they are. Thank you again!!!

Update on blue opal is from Richardson ranch and not as I bought blue chalcedony, after searching last night and this morning I found some with black spots in the blue like two pieces I have.
This lot was not for sale it was said this stuff does dry out and crazies after being exposed to air. It is also said that after a period of 2+ years of setting one can find solid stable material to cut cabs with.
The one thing I did not find was any mention or pictures of blue opal with red mixed in, they would suit me just fine instead of these turning white they turned red and stable?
The good news is I found no crazing on any of these freshly dug or setting for a while is the question. I will find out soon enough. The Dragons egg is first on the list did I luck out or did I buy junk?
Looks like bluesky and gemfeller id and placed a location for me. Thank you

Can you treat them to stabilize them?

Can you treat them to stabilize them? No clue? The only treatment these will see is shaping on the cab king after that's done good polish then slice to size and see what happens from there. Gonna do any and all shaping while hole because most are small do not want try dopping or super glue may wreck them.
