If it happened in August why are they just now reporting this or I should say releasing to the public? Have they not been up there until now? The Sheriff's Office probably started with what they had as possible leads, worked them for a while, and got nowhere. Last resort is going to the public for assistance. To be honest, a $10K loss is really not that big in the overall scheme of things with property crimes. Things have to be prioritized due to solvability and such. It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is.

This amount of time they could of sold it to Siberia by now

It's mind boggling sometimes.

But, there are so many different factors that will affect the ways an investigation might go. It's mind boggling sometimes. (Phoenix, AZ) The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is trying to find two men who broke into a remote amethyst mine and made off with a five-gallon bucket filled with 15 to 20-thousand dollars worth of amethyst. Detective Rob Marske says the men are believed to have broken in to the Four Peaks Amethyst Mine in the Tonto National Forest and damaged the mine. Marske says the theft occurred in August but investigators are asking for the public's help now -- after a passerby stepped forward with a picture snapped of one of the men getting into a black Toyota Tundra near the scene. That's why-they didn't have any leads until recently

If it's a private mine and he stole the material, it would be hard to resell that material, wouldn't it? If your smart, you always ask questions on where the material came from and what mine and or owner of said claims.. There is scum everywhere anymore...

I would have to see some sales receipts before I would buy into the $15,000 story ! That is a little rich I believe.
