It would be fun if all the RTH entrants identified themselves like Clampers do, eg; Tom RTH Green! We would always know looking at the results. We are looking forward to going to their show and hopefully, they'll have the rocks on display.

Wish I had done it. Did not even get the tumblers out this year. It's just been so crazy. Just can't do it all.

I tried and I was so very close to being finished, but it's just not polishing as quickly as I'd hoped. Well, I learned about the contest later in the year and didn't get the time to start my rough in time. Next year I'll get in on this earlier!
Best wishes to all those who are competing!

Just finished mine and got them off... No pic as too much of a hassle to put them up on this page. Will put them up on the facebook page...
Cheers Scott

Thanks Fernwood... Got a decent shine on them but they were fairly coarse grained and the mixed hardness of the material meant that didn't get a great choice when it came to submitting my 5 pieces
Cheers Scott

Give it up for our wonderful husband and wife team of Bob, TheRock and his wife Mary Jane, maryjane . Mary Jane bested Bob, but they both did RTH proud coming in 2nd and 3rd. See more info at the link.
Congrats to both of you on a job well done!

Congrats. Your entries were great.
I had to pull this quote from the above link: Bob took his tumbler with him and his wife on vacation. The tumbler ran non-stop in the back of his pick-up all day long and then ran through night in their motel room, much to the dismay of said wife, I’m sure. Not much sleep was had by either of them. Now that is total dedication in my eyes.
Talk about dedication.

Thank you all for the responses so far. I'm happy to find that in spite of the initial recoil at the announcement of rhodonite as the contest material, most of you are giving it a go. If voluntary participation had turned out to be very low that would have very disappointing. Just to share a back story with you all - knowing that the Camp fire had just devastated the Feather River club and the nearby Paradise club, I contacted the contest organizers in early January (edited: December 12th) and offered RTH's help with the contest. The help options I offered ranged from simply donating material for the contest. In anticipation I broke up 20 lbs of killer Owyhee jasper and after presenting my offer I contacted roy he quickly and generously donated a LFRB of the same and we ended up with over 40 lb's ready to go. The other options I offered on behalf of RTH were to facilitate the mailing of material to save the club money, or even take over the entire contest for one year and turn it into a HUGELY promoted fund raiser on behalf of the club - raising the (donation) entry fee and pushing the heck out of it here and on Facebook to see how much money we could raise for them. Anyway, after my contact promised to take our offer to the board, they proceeded with the contest without response, using the rhodonite from one of the board members. I was disappointed but decided rather than being sour grapes and starting a competing contest I would sit back and watch how things went with the rhodonite. I'm happy that participation has not been dampened much and hope the club does well - and that RTH members make a bold statement by sweeping the top three Worst case scenario would have been if the club's contest tanked AND I hadn't launched one either. At this point I'm still sitting on 40 lbs of killer Owyhee jasper tumble rough and wondering what to do with it. When this contest concludes I am hoping I am still in position to start a new contest on RTH - probably as a one time 50/50 fund raiser on behalf of the Paradise club who really took a hard hit and lost their entire lapidary shop, equipment, etc. I'll start a separate thread on this topic when the time is right. I love that you did that, Tommy. I’m glad they’re still running the contest because I think they lose money on it. I enjoy the competition, but usually hate tumbling the crappy rocks. If they were easy rocks to tumble, it would be hard to differentiate to find a winner. sounds like a good plan to me host a big RTH /Facebook tumbling contest i will offer up a prize or two or three if this helps then just help the club anyways cause thats what we do !!!!

Thanks to all of you, I appreciate the opportunity to represent RTH and this forum. It is truly humbling to compete against all of you like Drummond Island Rocks , Jugglerguy and all the rest of you that Blazed the Trail & have made this competition a tradition. You all are tough acts to follow, and I definitely had to muster all I had just to be on my "A GAME" in order to be able to compete. The Rhodonite proved to be both challenging and difficult to work with, as in my short time of tumbling I had not worked with this stone and didn't know what to expect. Much of the competition was the "LUCK of THE DRAW" in getting good material to work with. The competition with my wife started out more as a Joke, when I told MJ that I was entering a Rock Polishing competition I noticed she perked up and was looking over my shoulder, and Hanging around the lap shop a little more than usual. A week later Her stones came in the mail and it was ON! My understudy got some mighty good material and showed ole Duke where the bear craps in the woods I guess! Again I was Humbled. Lori Millard, Feather Rivers Club Coordinator got the story she told mixed up with another Bob, as I don't even own a Pickup Truck, and haven't been on vacation in over a year! Oh well anyways Thanks Again.
