need info on which polish is better for shells or stones with a 5 on the mohs scale. I use aluminum oxide now but have seen shells with much hugher shine, am going to try tin oxide this batch. 1week 120 - 220 rough then 3 days 500 a o pre polish, then 3 days 1000 a o pre polish then 7 days of polish, hope the tin oxide will give higher shine. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks joejan

I've never done sea shells in a rotary tumbler, but these were done in a Lot-O vibe with AO polish after short runs of Sic 220 and AO 500.

When I don't use aluminium oxide in a rotary tumbler, I switch up to cerium oxide. Tin oxide works OK, but is expensive. Actually, cerium oxide is relatively expensive too. Some people use chromium oxide, but I have not tried it. I understand it is mostly used on hard material like jade or garnet. Someday, I intend to try it on garnet, to see if I can improve my results there.
