MsAli ......Taking another path: pictures of Armadillo fossil. Googled and Found this article in the Daily Mail dated January 29, 2019 Did this shell belong to an ancient giant armadillo? 3ft fossil found in Argentina may have protected 10,000-year-old glyptodont Shell was discovered on a farm in Carlos Spegazzini near Buenos Aires It measures 3ft (one metre) long and is thought to belong to a glyptodont Giant armadillos lived for tens of millions of years in South America Pictures follow:
The skin has the same texture, so maybe it is an ancient armadillo. Dang, and I thought it was Dinosaur skin. I am now inclined to believe @rocks2dust original comment was correct, maybe it just needs to be put on a warm kitchen floor for a while and watch it unroll. It is probably just an old armadillo that got wasted on tequila and is just sleeping it off. Cheers, johnw Cheers, johnw

Here is my final take on this mystery. If indeed it is a fossilized armadillo why not jus cut it down the middle and see the remains. Problem solved. Cheers, johnw

Ok he said off the 94 western part of Montana close the Idaho border I assume that is I90, which would put in into an area that contains a lot of massive ancient lake mud deposits. That would tend to support a concretion (including something like a septarian nodule) or even oolite/pisolite that has been worn down. I'd want to cut it, but it is so attractive that I'd also want to email a photo to the guy linked on this page before doing so.

It seems mudballs form under their own rules, in all kinds of circumstances:
From the local desert, front
Back
Another smaller one, with a more intricate pattern. Did not take pic of back side, it is smooth, has no texture.
As neat as these are, they will not hold up to lapidary work. They are just mud balls.

I really like that second, small piece as-is. I think it would be attractive just silicone sealed and set in a simple frame as a pendant.

One of a kind having ancient Sumerian markings. Might as well spin a good story to go along with it. Heightens the drama. Cheers, johnw

In several of your photos, I see a pinhole. I wonder what that is all about and if it is significant. Interesting find. Thanks. Pat My guess, it was its breathing hole. Cheers, john

Thanks! I think you both may have something there! A simple pendant, just as is (a one off), or cast and made into numerous clones. So much for one of a kind. Will have to give that some thought. Either way, it beats the way I am dissing it now, letting it sit on a bookcase collecting dust, lol.
johnw , Yes, I love the ancient Sumerian/alien markings on it. Those types of things always jump right out at me. I just went looking for old photos of some certain alien communicating rocks from the desert, almost lost my reply! Will hunt them up later.
Maybe I should talk a stroll around my house with a camera, select a few things off the multilayered horizontal surfaces around here, and get some pics of them. I know you guys can provide some great ideas of how I should molest transform them.

rockpickerforever ....I took it over to the cookers at The Big Crazy'x Pastry Shop and they thought it would look good as a Milk Chocolate Cookie. It is infused with 24 carat gold. Just so you know, theoretically, you could eat your fill of 24-karat gold without falling ill. Pure gold is chemically inert and passes through the human digestive system without being absorbed into the body. This is what they came up with. Cheers, johnw Seems ok, wanna bite?
