This looks interesting for anyone looking for small cabs for basic rings and earrings. It's a set of (36) different little polished gemstones and minerals from around the world, all identical sizes (1/2" x 3/8" x 1/8" thick), mounted and identified by name and origin on an 8" x 10" card. Price is $6.95. I wonder how good the polish is on these. Could not tell from the photograph on the web sight. Might be an inexpensive way for someone who is thinking about doing metal work to get some uniform material to experiment with. Something for Pebble Pups? Sorry if the posted photo is blurry. They usually sell those at tourist traps, too. I got a set from Laury Caverns. If I recall, the finish was decent, but it was a long time ago. I think its great for newbies for id reference.

Yes, I was thinking that too. If my proposed workshop this summer at a local major event is approved, I plan on getting one. The workshop is rock hounding for children/families. Would be a great addition.

Great idea on the resale. The fair where I hope to do the workshop allows presenters to sell items.

American Science and Surplus is one of Vince's favorite stores. He's always finding stuff he "needs" from there. Bonus is their descriptions of items are humorous and there are times when I will sit with their paper catelog and read it just for fun. I have also bought stuff from them that I "needed". You can get some really good deals on items. They do have legitimate tools like microscopes, lab tools, etc. along with the surplus stuff.

It's been a favorite of mine, too. I've purchased from them many times over the years, although not so often anymore. Annual visits with family in the Milwaukee area usually required a trip to their Milwaukee store when our kids were young. I'm still on their e-mailing list and once in a while I'll buy something. Noting your qualified "needs" made me smile — I suffer from that affliction, too.

I receive the catalog every week or so, hate to open it up because I just know there is something new in there I can't live without. Noticed the small cabs at a fair price just NEED more cabs !
