Lacking public lands, in Texas you are forced to negociate with Mr. Rancher or walk down the road and hope for the best. You did fine.

You picked up some really nice looking rocks along that road. Thanks for taking us along on your walk!

Nice bunch of road hunting there, those ought to polish up to be quite a show. My wife is the road hunter here, she has found easily the best of the trip several times on a road while I tramp all over the brush.

A couple of these might change classification as I work with them, agates to jaspers or petrified wood being the main changes.

Wow, interesting! (good thing we don't have roads like this here, I'd bring home full pockets and backpacks every time I had to walk on it...)

My opinion, Texas is in the top three for rock hounding... Montana and Oregon are the other two... Nice material - SCORE!

Got most of our agates walking down a dirt road. Rocks were literally falling out of the sides of the road. A few of the moss agates Nice agates Flint Quartz Jaspers Pudding Stone (Carnelian) something green sorry, i pruned your quote. just a quick question, what do you call this rock? i have found several different "versions" of this ranging from gritty opaque matrix to pale tan, to a deep redish brown, all with the tiny shells. But i don't know what it is, besides maybe fossilferris chert.

But i don't know what it is, besides maybe fossilferris chert. Might be Devil's Toenail or Coquina. Put Devil's Tonail in the Google search box at the top of the page. That will search this site. From there, look at the images and see what you might find for comparison. Peruano was involved in a discussion about this stuff at one time. Maybe he has some input. If Sabre52 was around, he'd definitely be able to help. Photos would be helpful.

It would be devils toe. I have picked up 3 versions in different areas, agatized, jasperized, and fossilized to coin words.
