A friend of mine gave me these and I'm not quite sure what to do with them so I thought I'd see if anyone here had worked with them. Cut and cab or tumble? I don't want to waste them, they're really cool.

I collect grape agate from the same location - San Rafael Swell near Green River, Utah. I mostly like the exterior for its botryoidal textures. Sometimes I slice off a section with cool grapes (not to be confused with cool beans!) flatten the back & set it in silver. Scroll part way down this page & see some examples of what I did with it: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/84561/overload-brenda-indian-blanket-canyonLynn

I suppose you're right, the botryoidal features are what makes them what they are. Probably wouldn't want to tumble them, then. I still may sacrifice one to the saw, however. Curiosity and all. Thanks, Mike

I took a couple of zarguy 's grape agates from the last traveling rock box. Just for specimen's. Agree that they could be cool sliced to show the grapes, then free form cabbed. Leaving the grape nodules intact on the cab.

Leaving the grape nodules intact on the cab. I like to do this. One side of the cab I leave natural and the other side I cab in a more conventional way. One side shows what mother nature does and the other side shows what man does. It's one of my favorite styles.

Me, too! Picture, please. Aw snap! I sold them and don't have any pics. I'll have to make one up and post it. Better than that, I'll send a SFRB of grape agate to any of you free if you'll just help me with the shipping costs. PM me your info if desired.

I do not have access to a saw right now, but encourage others to respond.
