Hi, all!
Has anyone ever tried a 30/60 grit garnet blasting media in their coarse stage using a rotary tumbler?
$19.95/55 lb bag
Almandine and Pyrope Garnet
Chemical Formula: (Fe, Mg)3 Al2(SiO4)3
Thanks! James

James Yes. It makes a matte polish on flat surfaces of agates and woods at best. Wouldn't bother. SiC is king cutter. Perhaps it would work on shaping soft material. 80 grit almandine after like 3 weeks. nice buffing.

James There is quite a difference in hardness values: Garnet Al2O3-3FeO-3SiO2 ... 1360 Knoop value Silicon Carbide SiC ... 2480 Knoop value But, I'm wondering if the addition of the garnet would help with creating a slurry faster and one not as "slippery" as a mud slurry? Of course, "stickiness" in a slurry would seem to be a plus. James (again)!

We have 4-6mm garnets we use for vibe tumbling flats, works for a filler but never tried as a grit.
