Hi, all.
I know that this is a lapidary forum. But, it also appears that there are a lot of very knowledgeable rock hounds that inhabit this internet "techno-sphere".
That being acknowledged - I am seeking your knowledge and advice.
In June, my wife and I are going to a family reunion in Amelia, New Mexico. While she catches up on family news, I would like to sneak away for some rock collecting.
Any suggestions about the area around Ameilia, Cerro and Questa, NM?
Thanks! James

Georgia O'keefe grooved on the rocks she found around Ghost Ranch and Pedernal Peak, near Abiqiqui. The chert comes in various colors, white, pink, black, and some brecias form as well. It tumbles and cabs. This and some of the obsidians from nearby areas were the primary tool materials for the entire Anazazi region, so its a multicultural material. New Mexico has lots of good sites, but driving a bit will be essential.
