As you may have noticed, I've been making a few YouTube videos lately. I've had a YouTube account for quite a while that I've used to post various videos that I've taken without any particular theme. I used the name " jugglerguy1" because that's what I've used on all online forums I've belonged to. I have some videos of my son and I unicycling on my channel and a video of my daughter's monarch butterflies hatching that has over a hundred thousand views, but going forward I plan to have rock related videos. I don't have high expectations, but I wouldn't mind earning a little extra money for my efforts. I think I need a different channel name if I'm going to get serious about this. My plan is to do lapidary stuff during the winter months and rock collecting videos in the summer. I have a video of me collecting Petoskey stones and pudding stones that is gaining popularity right now. From my small amount of research, rock collecting videos seem to be more popular than videos showing lapidary techniques. I just bought a GoPro to take with me on my hunts. Before I ask for advice, I'm going to let you know that I will not necessarily take your advice. Like when my wife asks me which shoes look better and then wears the opposite of whatever I choose. The trick is to find a descriptive name that is catchy that no one else has thought of. So far, my only idea is "Rock Juggler". I'm not thrilled with that name, but it's kind of fitting. I could make it a normal part of my videos to briefly juggle some rocks. Or maybe thats' a terrible idea. So what do you think?

If any more inspiration comes to me I'll be back...

Michigan Rocks.
Picks up things directly related to rocks/lapidary but can also be used to espouse the great things about Michigan - travel, hobbies, etc.

I just checked, and "Michigan Rocks" is available. That's simple and to the point.
As for "Juggling Rocks", is that better than "Rock Juggler"? I think it might be. But I'm not sure why. Time to go do some more research on other channel names.

Time to go do some more research on other channel names. I think it is too but I'm also not sure why. I think Rock Juggler defines you and something you do but Juggling Rocks seems more playful and open to interpretation? I also like Michigan Rocks - you guys don't have to believe me but I had that on my list from the start then deleted it in favor of what I think I remember to be your home town - ie: Xxxxxx Rocks - then deleted that thinking it was too personal ... and that was that

I was actually surprised to see that "Michigan Rocks" hadn't been picked up as a channel yet. Other than the obvious tie to lapidary and rockhounding, I thought it would be able to tie into the other stuff that Rob spoke to having videos about. How cool would it be to have a rock channel but also be able to tie into other stuff that Michigan might have to offer? That was my thinking. In addition to the name itself, I'm thinking about the different search terms that some folks might use. I'm wondering what "rocks in Michigan" might turn up in a search. Whatever happens, good luck Rob Jugglerguy . I'll be looking to your other vids down the road. ETA: My wife does monarch raising as well. We'll have to check out what your daughter has done. Dave

Dave Allison’s friend Katie got her started raising monarchs. They raised over a hundred some years. I caught four hatching in one short video once. This is my daughter Allison: She tagged along on Katie’s senior picture photo shoot. Allison is on the right.

We have a boatload of milkweed to help with the venture. As the temps warm, we'll be getting back into this.

"Juggling Rocks" sounds good to me. But, a lot of Tommy's do. If it is just going to be rock related stuff, how about " Juggling Stones." If it will also include your kids and their endeavors, then call it "Juggling Stones and Life."

aDave Tommy Jugglerguy None of y’all were around back when MichiganRocks was posting. Stalwart member. He hasn’t posted since July of 2010 and it’s actually good to see he’s checked in as recently as April of 2017.

He got me started trying to tumble Petoskey stones. Edit: oops, I misread that. I was thinking about mibeachrocks.

I think I'm going to go with just "Michigan Rocks". Juggling will not be part of my channel going forward. Michigan Rocks is simple and to the point. Dave made a good argument about search too.
Thanks everyone!

Michigan rocks is good, because people who are googling it will find it without even knowing they were looking for it.

There are some pretty good Youtube videos on how to select a name and will identify things to consider. Basic info such as - no numbers or special characters, pick something that people can spell, find something that is available on multiple platforms - there are websites to help with the latter. Once you pick a name, go grab that same name on the free sites (eg. Minds, Facebook, gmail, etc) or someone else will do it (to you). So if "michigan rocks" is taken, don't be tempted to make it mich4rocks as every time you get asked about your channel you will be spelling mich and explaining 4 is not for, four, phor, etc. Instead, MIrock would be a better alternative, but not perfect because you will end up saying "myrock" or some such problematic thing. It 'taint easy... The good news is you can change your name later with Youtube if you no longer like what you have...

I don't plan to do much on other sites, such as Twitter, but it doesn't hurt to have the name if I change my mind.
