I own a supply of both these abrasives and was wondering if its ok to mix them in a stage 3 batch. From opinions I gathered on this board, most folks here prefer AO 500 for stage 3. At the same time, reading books, websites, etc some others prefer using SiC 500 during that stage. What would be the harm if you did 2 tablespoons of one, and 2 tablespoons of the other? Is this question heresy? I looked on line and found that both are 13 microns [ Link: www.kcabrasive.com/sizing/ ] .

Good question. I have SIC 600. Running a batch in them now. I am using the SIC as an experiment for a 6 stage run in rotary. I had done a 5 stage run in the past, but wanted to experiment to see of better results could be obtained.
Hoping more knowledgeable members will check in, but I would not mix SIC and AO.

Harry -
Try the combo mixture and let us know what you find. They are both very hard and I'm not sure if one would break down the other. My gut tell me SiC is the harder of the two but that is just a guess.

Yeah, I think I'll give it a try. The worst that could happen is I'd have to re-run the batch. I'll let you know - thx
