Good day! I am hoping to get some idea of how this rock(s) was created. I had put this in another post an hour ago, along with others, but when I hit "Create Thread" just now, I got a Cloudflare error, and lost about 45 minutes worth of my work. So here goes .. again. I found this (and other rocks) on the banks of the Colorado River, Nevada. I call this the Gila. It is textured roughly. I don't know its origin. It was the only one I saw like it. It is bright, vibrant orange. The picture does not show this very well. Probably the white background causing this. It appears as if a black colored rock ate an orange one. I turned and almost stepped on it. I expected it to move actually. The colors seem to go through the rock. The matrix was hard and white, but eventually cracks off I guess. So far I have not stumped anyone with my rocks. I am hoping that someone might be familiar with this rock. Thank you for your help!

nice looking rock, try a hardness/scratch test and post a dry image. guess is jasper/chert/flint with iron oxide stains.

Nice looking rock. Is it big enough to cab? Cause that's what I would do.

I will do so from now on, for Rock ID posts! I only know how to do a couple tests so far. I have a good knife for one. And I use a water drop for another. I guess if it is less hard than the knife, then it's a "6" or less. I look for the water drop to either stand on the rock or absorb in to it after 15-20 minutes for the other one, to see how porous it might be.

Nice looking rock. Is it big enough to cab? Cause that's what I would do. Thanks RJ! It has a nice crack going right through the middle of it, which carries to both sides. It feels lavic. It has a rough texture, not a smooth one. I will save it for later and maybe I can get a cab sized piece out of either side of that crack.

Thanks vegasjames. I thought that you of all folks would know this one! I can't believe I stumped you with this one. There has to be more of these little guys around some place in Nevada. The colors are bizarre though.

Best guess so far is "jasper/chert/flint with iron oxide stains".
I will take other pictures of it dry, and write back with more hardness information. Thank you all.

OK, fuss. Here is the "gila", dried and sliced open. There is some other, more muted color going through it as well. Like a light orange. I must have a really crappy knife (sharp, old school steel that grandpa gave me, so that probably makes it a 100 years old or something). Because I can't leave a mark. Again, I can leave a lead pencil looking mark, but it can be taken off with cloth & water. Any of these pictures can be blown up by using <right click> / Open Image in new Tab. Or I can post a really blown up picture, as I have a bunch of them. It looks less like a black rock ate a orange rock. It looks as if the two were molten together, much like many Jaspers are. I really wouldn't mind knowing what it might be. But honestly, the other two are more mysterious to me. Sorry these are not polished slabs guys, but perhaps I can make something in the future with the Gila. Thanks for helping out.
