Being that soap is used for washing and final Burnish:
Is there any difference between : Liquid soaps, Powered soaps and the Bar soaps.
What about Hand soap, Dish soap and Laundry soap?

All of my rough grind happens In the rotaries with no media or soap. In my Lot-O, I use a very inexpensive Dial hand soap during the end stage of pre-polish and polish to help cushion and release grit for cleaning. It does not take much. I sometimes use Borax also,..but not always. Experiment and find what works for you...and have fun!

Being that soap is used for washing and final Burnish: Is there any difference between : Liquid soaps, Powered soaps and the Bar soaps. What about Hand soap, Dish soap and Laundry soap? The big two that are recommended the most are Ivory (original, shaved from a bar or flakes) and borax. I've seen a lot in books and websites to avoid any soaps with additional perfumes, oils, etc. as they may stain or alter the rocks but I do not recall ever reading about that happening to anyone. In my rotaries I have used both and they were equally fine. In the vibe borax is my favorite thickener to slow everything down for softer stones. I do not like Ivory at all in the vibe as it completely changes the action in it (this is in a Thumler's UV-10). I do not do a burnishing cycle anymore in either rotary or vibe as I honestly do not see a difference. I also do not bother with any special wash cycles in between stages or really after polish. We have switched to using just very hot water (we have a spigot on our hot water line in the basement) and this has been just as effective as anything else. We do squirt a few drops of dish soap in the vibe 10-15 minutes prior to cleanouts just because of the amount of ceramics involved, seems to help the grit/polish release a little easier. The rocks just get blasted with hot water from the hose. Al
