We were able to get out wandering around a little the past few weekends. Just exploring, looks as though spring is starting to happen. Just thought I'd post up some random eastern Nevada pics. Friday, May 10 was the sesquicentennial of the driving of the Golden Spike on the transcontinental railroad up at Promontory, UT. In Ely, NV the Northern Nevada Railroad folks staged a re-enactment with a copper spike.
Then they hooked up both engines and ran them up the canyon.
Later today I'll try to get a few rocks rinsed off and some pictures of them put up. Thanks for looking.

Nice pics, Russ! I especially like the petroglyphs(?) stone carvings. Those have always fascinated me.
Thanks for sharing your trip.
ETA - The scenery and the flowers pics are great, too. We haven't gotten out and about for some time now, nice to be able to live vicariously through the other forum members.

Thanks, all. Took a few pictures of some of the rocks we brought home. Sun and clouds weren't cooperating so the fist-sized stuff got done inside. later the sun came out a little so the last two were taken outside.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks, Jean rockpickerforever. Petroglyphs are always cool. Hope you can get out sometime soon, although I suspect that your rockhouding season is ending as ours is starting.

Thanks for the ride, good looking country, and some nice finds to bring home. Things there look pretty green this year, seems everyone got pretty wet over winter.

Nice shot of Wheeler Peak. I hiked to the top years ago and took the tour into Lehman Caves. Very cool.
Thanks for sharing.

What great pictures. What were they mining? Next time you go, bring some fake skulls and bones etc to scatter around the entrance.

Thanks all. Green is the word-wet winter/spring. Not a lot at once, but steady. Seems I sent most of my free time from January to March shoveling snow.
Wheeler Peak is really neat. Haven't done the caves yet but it's on the list. Hopefully this summer.
That was gold mining. Pretty much exhausted by 1920. Reworked some in the early '40's.

Haven't done the caves yet but it's on the list. Hopefully this summer. That was gold mining. Pretty much exhausted by 1920. Reworked some in the early '40's. Russ I highly recommend the tour through Lehman cave. The tourist traffic is usually light in this area and it's a beautiful drive up Wheeler Peak. A detour to the West toward Delta or Milford, Utah will put you in good rock hounding areas too. Nice remote area away from the crowds.

You're right about the traffic in the area. We had to make a quick trip o Cedar City a couple of weeks ago. On Highway 21 from US 50 to Milford I think we met 8 cars. Nice drive and a beautiful area, haven't really had time to mess around much over there but it's on the short list as well.

Missed this- Great pictures! Love the train story, too. A little sad not more people showed up for the sesquicentennial. But, better for you. I'm used to crowds that take all the fun out of everything.

I'm used to crowds that take all the fun out of everything. They actually had a pretty decent crowd for a little town. When I took the picture folks were just kind of wandering over. That took place on the same day as the "official" celebration at Promontory where I hear they had 20,000 people. Also the same week that they ran the Big Boy from Cheyenne to Ogden and back, I guess that was a madhouse as well.
