Started my first batch on Saturday with 46/70 SIC grit in my 1st 15lb tumbler. After a couple hours I heard a high pitch squealing and thought "really, I just started". Anyways, realized when the maintenance is to add drops of oil to the shaft/bearing areas was after a month but quickly figured out I needed to start by oiling now and follow up monthly or more. Sunday I put together another batch in my other 15lb tumbler using 36 SIC grit. I tried the 2 different grits just to see the difference for myself on how the 2 compare. I will check each in about 3 days and add more grit if needed.
A few of you have suggested a vibe and I do plan to get in the future. However, since I do have the patience for tumblers (especially since my DW in interested and volunteered to help), we would like to see rotary way first.
One thing I noticed about the 15lb tumbler was when I filled it up with rocks (between 2/3 - 3/4 full) and added the water just below the top layer of rocks and grit, weighed in at 21 pounds. Not sure if I could get it down to 15 pounds as stated in the name itself or maybe I am missing something. Either way I am looking forward to the outcome and also having my wife get her hands a little bit dirty. LOL
Appreciate all the words of wisdom,
Jim

Good luck Jim. I wouldn't worry about the weight in a Model B. When we first started and weighed them, it was always well over 20 lbs. They are beasts.
