Fire was contained to kitchen, due to what I think was bad wiring that was supposedly fixed prior to moving in.
I put out fire myself, as I could not afford to call and have EMS respond. Here, we have to pay for EMS services and they are not totally covered by my insurance.
Right hand is burned. Have that heavily salved and in glove. Have to work 7 hours later today.
My oven/range was destroyed, as was some of wall and floor. Took me 2 hours to clear smoke. My Sabby cat is feeling the effects of the smoke. I am coughing some, but OK.
It was a scary experience.

Glad you're OK, fire is the one thing that worries me. Glad you're OK but you do need to have the burns looked at, avoid infection! Hope insurance helps out and gets your kitchen back to normal.

Glad it wasn't too severe but it's bad enough. Money doesn't matter if you don't have your health, make sure that hand is taken care of.

fernwoodI can't believe this happened, I am so sorry! I'm glad that it wasn't a major loss, but I'm sad to hear about your hand. Please, do not ignore getting it looked at. Blistering burns that don't hurt a ton are usually 3rd degree and need to be examined and cleaned to prevent infection. If there is anything I can do to help please don't hesitate to pm me. I wish you quick healing and secondary house healing.

Glad to hear nobody went to the hospital.
It sounds like an electrician needs to check your electrical system.
When I bought my current house (pun intended) the wiring was messed around with by the previous owner. I knew enough to know it was over my head and had a good electrician in the house for two days labeling what breaker controlled what electrical outlet or switch and verifying that all the grounds were working and that none of the circuits were drawing more amps than they were rated for. You really should know what home wiring is about before attempting to do it yourself. Fortunately there are some very good books about it at most home improvement stores with lots of tips about testers, types of wire and switches, etc. that can provide the basics.

Wow, sounds like it could have been a lot worse. Glad you were able to get the fire out. Sorry your hand got burned but glad you're ok otherwise. Fire is not nice. Hope you can get things fixed up in the kitchen soon.

Beth, I'm glad you and the kitty are ok. Scary, scary stuff. Please make sure you get your hand looked at the hospital. You really need to get medical attention for it. It's better to not be able to work for a few days than not be able to work at all because you've lost the use of your hand!
You take care of yourself and your kitty.

Thank you everyone.
Blisters are not open. Areas of hand with no blisters are shiny, a little red and fairly smooth. No open wounds. Do not know how that happened.
I was able to work yesterday, with some minor modifications to how I did things. Loaded hand with salve and wore a glove.
The calendula salve is great for burns. As of today, I have one large blister on a joint in pointer finger and several other smaller (1/2" ones) on palm and thumb/fingers. Applied salve last night, but did not wear glove.
The house is still a little smelly, but Sabby cat is back to normal.
Calendula is such a great wound healer, and guards against infection, and alleviates pain from sores from burns. Calendula can also help soothe sunburn, scrapes, cuts, rashes and insect bites.
The type I have can be used safely on animals and people. Has a wonderful beeswax base.
Figure it will be another couple of days where I am doing mostly everything with left hand, but that is OK. I am mostly amby.
Yes, it could have been a lot worse outcome. After I put the fire out, I turned off the breaker for that part of house. It did not trip on its own. Come to find out, it controlled part of kitchen, all of dining room and part of utility room.
Rock tumbler is not effected by the breaker being off, as it is apparently on a different circuit.
Will call insurance company today, but am not optimistic. Might be worse off if I call them.
Thanks again for the support.

When it rains, it pours. Sorry, Beth. That is so scary. My biggest fear is a fire. I'm so glad you and kitty are ok.
Sad to say, but you may be right about the insurance. If this is something you can handle, it's probably better not to call. My BIL had a harrowing experience when they called after a storm. Long story- bottom line- don't trust the bastards.

Have had same insurance company/agent since the Mid 1980's. Just know my deductible is high. Also, do not think they would "appreciate" my house having Nob/Tube after I told them and provided an itemized list from electrician of everything that was (supposedly) done to upgrade electric. Cannot afford to be without insurance.

Brighter note is that I have baby duty today. Always a very nice time for his parents and me. They get to sleep. I get baby snuggles, put him to sleep. Then do some other things for them, which I can still do mostly one handed. Ensure he awakes calm. Let them know he is awake. Being with Avery is very relaxing for both him and me. All of my worries disappear. Off fire topic, but here is a photo of Avery from yesterday. Those eyes are amazing. How could such a bundle of joy not relax someone? At least when he is not in distress. How could he not take all of my worries away? “I will hug him and squeeze him and call him Avery (edited from the original John Steinbeck George).” Avery love to be squeezed. The tighter I am holding him, the better.

He's so adorable! Agreed, baby's are relaxing and they bring so much hope for the future. They are so innocent. It's so good of you two to have that time.

Hand is getting slowly better. Some blisters are larger now. Only have use of two fingers on right hand and not palm. Have to load car today for my children's session tomorrow. Also complete and print my session outline and resource sheets. Was unable to find any used totes or pails I could afford, so dumping contents of some totes I have things stored in and using them for the in tent rock hunt. Thankful I will have help prior to the session to transport everything from my car in the parking lot to the tent location, about a mile away. They will unload and help set up. The set up includes dumping 100 lbs. of sand in bags to the totes. then I can put the rocks I selected in them.
The fire was very bad timing, for sure.
Will try to take photos, but might not have time.
