Hi, I am new to the hobby as well as the forum. Looking forward to reading about what I can find in my area as well as other areas of western North America. John

Welcome and congratulations for living in a great lapidary, and rockhounding focal point. You have lots of resource groups and folks in your area (acknowledging that it is a big area and distances are large) so you should be able to progress in your efforts as fast as you are inclined to do so. I have had only brief exposure to rock hounding in BC but I met many enthusiastic people and saw an equal number of potential sources so would love to find the opportunity to come back and explore. Tell us about your adventures as you explore.

Welcome to the forum. Dallasite is found in Vancouver just across the bay from you. Wonder if it is in your area as well? We have another member here that used to live in Vancouver before he went further north and he posted many threads of his rock hunts in your area. I believe his ID here is still bcrockhound (someone please correct that if he has changed it) you can search for his threads and take a look at what he was finding. Dallasite & flowerstone are the main ones I think. He found some really good rocks in your area! Mostly right on the beach. Happy hunting!

Yep, Dallasite is named after Dallas Road in Victoria. However, Victoria is a busy place and doesn't have the rockiest beaches, so there's not a ton there. There is a ton on the east coast of the island from Nanaimo north though.

Welcome from Ontario. However, I have some gold claims on the Island (Bear Creek). I should be there in a few weeks.

Welcome! I love visiting Victoria, sometimes chartering a seaplane from Seattle when I am in the area. I try to see the amazing Butchart Gardens when I can too.
[edit] I wasn't looking for rocks when I was there, but the San Juan islands are loaded with stones. Next time I go back, I might try combing the shores for stones!
