Today my wife Marty was set up at a craft festival in Hot Springs South Dakota. We sell wire wrapped pendants, cabs and a few other rock related items. A few months ago I won an auction on the Marketplace here who's purpose was to raise money for the site. In this lot was a 3" rainbow obsidian sphere. On our sales table was this sphere. During the day a young feller (teenager) came up and admired the sphere while producing from his pocket a 2" labradorite sphere for Marty's perusal. It was a nice sphere with good color and flash and she told him so. He wandered off and nothing more was said or thought about it. A while later Marty noticed that the spheres were switched, alas, we are now the owners of a labradorite sphere and of course the kid was long gone. I'm not really upset because it was pretty audacious and if we came out the losers it wasn't by much. What the silly kid risked was unnecessary because I'm sure we could have horse traded to somehow make us all happy. Either he really liked that obsidian or he felt that he needed a bigger lump in his pocket. We've been selling stuff for about forty years and this was a first for us. Anybody else have a tale of their own to share?

I've seen silent auctions at rock shows. First silent trade I've heard of.

It might have been a mistake. On the oher hand, who doesn't want a bigger lump in their pocket once in a while? You have the right attitude. Now, you have a great story.

Can't even imagine, but kind of along that line and off topic a little. I stayed at a relatives house some weeks during the summer in my youth. They had a neighbor that would brag about everything. I was about 15 and I was thinking what I could prank them with. He was bragging about how his car got the best gas mileage out there. So I took to siphoning a little gas a couple times a week out of his car. He couldn't figure out what was going on. He changed his points, timing, oil and was just mystified. The next few weeks I spent the time putting the gas back in a little at a time. He just started bragging how it got better mileage than before. Why we do things when we are kids are beyond knowing. The things we did most of us wouldn't still do at least I wouldn't. You all have probably heard my friends gramps saying "If they can live with it I can live without it" Maybe it will show up next show.

The kid got ripped off. Any lab sphere with color flash is better than obsidian any day.

The kid got ripped off. Any lab sphere with color flash is better than obsidian any day. Serves him right . That is if he did not steal the Labradorite sphere from somebody else first. Al

The kid got ripped off. Any lab sphere with color flash is better than obsidian any day. Not if the obsidian is from Jalisco, Mex! That’s top shelf
